It is named “Ile de Beauté” (Island of Beaudy) because of its exceptional settings, untouched by developers, and it is very attractive to tourists with its white sand beaches and turquoise water. Inland, there are rugged mountains forming a range running north-south which is well known for its hiking trail - the GR20. It's food specialties include chestnut, fish and sea food , "charcuterie" (cold cuts), cheese, and olive oil.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Corsica
Se baigner sur la plage avec la montagne et la vielle citadelle pour paysage Good tip? (+1) Take the Aligriate Express or Popey Boot to the Beach Lodo costs in 08 / 14 Euro. After 20 minutes you arrive, then walk 1hour and 15 minutes around the coast. Then you will be able to swim in a beatiful beach called Saleccia. This Beach can only be reached with 4x4 cars or by foot or if you are rich enough by boot. After you have done you swimming and sunbathing go back the shorter way but have enough time as there is huge huntershut in the shade of the pines where you can enjoy a beer. Then walk futher through the middle of the hot desert back to Beach Lodo takes about 1 hour (without the beer) from Saleccia Beach. Not as intresting as the coast but perfect for a roundtrip walk. At Beach Lodo you take the boot back to Saint-Florent. If you have to wait there you can take another swim Good tip? (0) The southern coast in the vicinity of Bonifacio is an outcrop of chalk-white limetone, precipitous and sculpted into unusual shapes by the ocean. Slightly further inland the limestone adjoins the granite of which the two islands, Sardinia and Corsica, are formed. The port of Bonifacio is placed on the Bay of Bonifacio, a drowned ravine of a fjord-like appearance separated from the ocean by a finger-like promontory 1,500 meters (4,900 ft) long and 200 meters (660 ft) wide. The town's charm and proximity to idyllic beaches makes it a popular tourist destination in the summer, predominantly for residents of mainland France. The town is served by Figari airport (car or taxi required), and ferry service to Sardinia is available multiple times daily. Good tip? (0)
