Ile-de-France

Paris and its surroundings (including Versailles less than 50 km away), are the historical, economical, politically and cultural heart of France.  Paris, called “ville lumière”, is one of the most cherished and most visited city in the world (see section on Paris for more information).  The suburbs are connected to Paris by  train and subway, and all regions of France have access to Paris through the express trains TGV.  The Seine river makes it's winding way trough the regions, dividing Paris into its right and left banks.

There's a side-entrance to the Louvre Museum named Port de Lions. It's located between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont Royal in the southwing of the museum. If you don't want to wait for hours in line at the pyrmid, this is the way to be in the Louvre in 2 minutes.
