Paris People & Culture
Paris, Ile-de-France, France visit the sacre coeur basilica on a friday night and listen to the young people playin guitars and singing Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France it's very expensive and full or french people who are very rude in my opinion Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Paris is gorgeous around the wealthy areas, along the Seine River little market stalls
Tour Eiffel sparkles up with thousands of lights on every hour after dark – sensational.
Arc Du Triomphe is one crazy round-a-bout!!
Louvre took 4 hours to complete, very well worth it – hmm but just not too sure on the authenticity of the Mona Lisa painting though…
The bakeries – A mouth waterer. The meringues are a definite must!!
Trendy stylish restaurant
Amazing Shopping – La Fayette Royal Parade
Had a ball putting my French speaking skills to the test :)
I loved the feeling of being in Sacré Coeur, all the twinkling candles choir nuns
Downsides:
Don’t expect to get anything at all for free
A decent salad consists of a couple of lettuce leaves
I was appalled at the amount of poverty; it saddened me, beggars homeless people of all ages :(
Streets are absolutely filthy in the burbs… I don’t wish to describe
Overall I would head back to France to experience the countryside. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Paris is a typical old European City with lots of history...the problem is...It's full of Frogs (french people) Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Across from the Eiffel Tower is a place called Tracadero. Go there in the evening, buy a beer or ten from a street vendor and sit on the steps and meet people from all over the world. Best place for me in Paris. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France PARIS! 2nd best city in the world! (apart from my hometown Zurich) I have no further comment, since it is on TOP of my favourite destinations. Everything is just perfect: language, culture, food, nightlife, transport... just french "savoir vivre"! Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France A lovely city where you can take a cruise on the Seine, go up the Eiffel Tower, steeped in culture and history make sure you have longer than a day as there is too much to see. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Paris is most of all a city for tourists. If you're a stereo type, you should defenitely visit the Notre Dame (Ile de la Cité), Eiffel Tour, Montmartre, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Champs-Elysées, Sacre-Coeur, la Défense, de Tuileries and the Jardin du Luxembourg. The metrosystem is really good and cheap in Paris, although very busy. The site www.ratp.fr. is the best to find information about this. If you have more time you should check the parcs Parc André Citroën and Parc Bercy. The neighbourhood le Marais is really interesting if you're looking for architecture and bars. The best places to go out in the night (if you're young) are the areas known as Montparnasse and Quartier Latin. More details will follow.. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Generally speaking, I think Paris is one of the more overrated cities in Europe. It is well known for its food culture, but more so, for its romantic scene. Some parts of Paris are very romantic for those of you looking to rekindle your intimate passions, but I've experienced very dingy streets littered with graffiti and dewy underground systems that I wouldn't touch to save my life. The people that I have encountered were snobbish and less likely to accommodate you for simple needs. Many men are womanizers looking for a fix and some woman can be short with respect. Bring a dictionary with some basic French to show them you're trying to embrace their culture and maybe they'll open up to show you the way. Often, there are street beggars scouting for sympathetic foreigners, so if you likely to give in , have some extra francs. Walking and the railway systems are the fastest way to get around Paris. As far as activities and sightseeing go, there is an abundance of culture to satisfy your every wim. The Eiffel Tower stands tall at the epicenter of Paris, overlooking Du Louvre and the Arc De Triumph. Exploring Du Louvre in its entirety would take a week, so have a guide to escort you to the main attractions for quick peeks. Overall, Paris was nice, but if you really want awe-inspiring, might I suggest a less mainstream destination like the smaller towns and villages of France. I feel the smaller the town, the more charm it has. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Paris. My city of dream (I have 3). Culture, excuisite food, French people complaining all the time, taxi drivers driving like crazy, an efficient metro system, expensive hotels, cheap hotels. Champs Elysées. Place de la Concorde. Millions of nice restaurants. Louvre museum, Pompidou museum. Lido, Folie Bergères, Moulin Rouge, Crazy Horse Salon. Everything, 360 degrees, total excitement. The day I am rich, I will buy an apartment in Paris. Overlooking the Eifel tower. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France The Sacre Coeur church: in addition to a beautiful building, you will be able to take pictures overlooking a great part of Paris, and on the stairs before the church, music is often played by not-so-bad street artists. A great place to hang out and just enjoy your day! Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France BUDDHA BAR!!
Great music and athmosphere, dinner was good enough, but wow, what a statue!! cool.
I think it's on the "place Vendome" (it has been a while) Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Have a look through the back alleys. There are so many Cuban cafes, filled with good food, amazing music and happy people. Its the best place to be! Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Favela Chic - Really nice and crazy brazilian Club with cool music and the best food ever! http://www.favelachic.com/paris/ Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France 1. Impressionism! (d'Orsey)
2. Both: touristic places and quiet, green parks
3. Music is everywhere Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France If you are spending more than a few days here you should take the time to go on a biking tour of Paris, you get to see the real paris, behind the scenes and closed doors. Highly reccomended!! Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France If you really want to get to know the whole of Paris, I recommend you to rent a bike (and a guide) to show you the places where you normally would never come. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France When visiting the Sacre-Couer in Montmartre, take the stairs on the left side instead of the main entrance ramp on the right side (trodden by tourists). You're less likely to be scammed by the following: a couple of (or a few) people will approach you to show you a "magic trick". What they will do is tie your fingers together with a string and will tell you that they will only cut out the string once you give them money. BTW: Those "magical" dancing disney cardboard characters are not magical...they are well attached to fishing line strings. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Temple Bar good atmosphere and u have big screens to watch sport events Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Try the city's bike renting program or walking. You'll see more than if you always rode the metro, and you'll save a lot of money. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France There's a side-entrance to the Louvre Museum named Port de Lions. It's located between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont Royal in the southwing of the museum. If you don't want to wait for hours in line at the pyrmid, this is the way to be in the Louvre in 2 minutes. Good tip? (+3) Paris, Ile-de-France, France oh Paris so many things to see and do here the best I can reccommend is at least stay here for 4 nights minimum to really get a feel of the city and to experience the wonder of Paris....dont just pass though on a day trip! Good tip? (+1) Paris, Ile-de-France, France If you don't have a fear of height, please go up with the elevator to the Eiffel Tower and look around. Being on the top of Paris is amazing and if the weather is good you can see very far. Good tip? (+1) Paris, Ile-de-France, France The Bateaux Mouches were such a fun way to get a tour of Paris. The boats are narrated and go right along the Seine River. Plus I love the way that sounds when you pronounce it. I can say it 10x. Bateaux Mouches. :) Good tip? (+1) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Don't go out in clothese that you would go clubbing in here in the UK, as the Parisians were a lot more laid back with their dressing up and we got a little mauled when we went - this is a tip from Parisian when we had to hide in a night cafe form scary guys! Good tip? (+1) Paris, Ile-de-France, France I am an American/German, and in 2002 I took a road trip throughout northwestern Europe. When I first came into France I was surprised to find how expensive the tolls were on the roads. If you are going to drive through France on the highways, bring about a hundred dollars for the tolls. I drove a long distance on these roads, however I spent more in tolls than on gas. I will leave the rest of the french cities out of this description. As an American citizen I had heard many stories about the rudeness of French people, and Parisians in particular. I must disagree with this common preconception. The only place I encountered any such behavior was in the city of Dunquerke (Dunkirk). As for what struck me most about this city, the clearest memory of the place was how extremely large the city is. I have lived in and visited many more-populated cities, but I have never seen a city that seemingly was a 40 Km (25 mi) diameter of continuous urban setup. My first tip is if you fly into Paris, look at it on landing approach. As for activities, aside from the famous sights (Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, etc.), I suggest a conversation with a local. I had a long discussion with the innkeeper of my hotel. It was very interesting to hear a perspective from the general citizen who doesn't get onto the news to declare his hatred for the world. I don't like what any government on earth does, but I am unwilling to assume that every German hates Jews, that all Polish are stupid, or that all Muslims want to kill me and my family. If you need any ideas of what to do in Paris, read the book 'A Moveable Feast' by Earnest Hemingway. It is all about life in Paris. Enjoy your trip.
