Traveling with Children in Ile-de-France
Versailles, Ile-de-France, France
Take the RER (line C) I think from the station adjacent to Porte de Versailles. Train takes about 45 minutes, ignore the beggars on it (why does such a crap train goto such a lovely place??) and get off at the end of the line. Turn right down the main street, and about 200 metres up the road there is a huge boulevard and voila! The Chateau de Versailles. Beauty of the place is probably lost on children (and the uneducated) but to history buffs it is gorgeous and fascinating. Buy the full ticket including the estate of Marie Antoinette, but just check everything will be open on your visit. Audioguide is included in price, but train ride around park isn't. Don't buy expensive food in the parks - McDonalds opposite train station offers a slightly cheaper option!!

Visit the Eiffel tower, and use the stairs, it uses up plenty of time and is good exercise. Also if you have young children, be sure to visit disney land paris.

Paris itself is just what you expect, even more. It's a beautiful City full of charm and mystique. I personally recommend the usually sites including Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame. Walks along the Sienne and the Champs Elysee are also dreamy. If you have a little more money the Lido, Moulin Rouge etc are fun! As any city, it can be as expensive or as cheap as you want. Two star hotels in Paris are usually clean and comfortable. For cheap food, try the local supermarkets. Baguettes are fabulous. For children I highly recommend the Disneyland Park resorts.

If your a guy DO NOT goto this city!!! If you are female or of alternative lifestyle this may the city for you. People are rude and very unfriendly to everyone except to the fairer sex!

Grab a Metro pass for however many days you need at the airport when you arrive. It's an easy enough system to understand. Also it's nice to just walk. As a female traveller I felt safe enough. Obviously didn't take stupid risks and was aware of my surrounds but there were always enough people around. Also grab a museum pass as it helps to skip the lines - or at least be in the shorter one. There is also a group of open topped buses where you buy a 24 hr pass and can hop on and off and they have 4 routes covered under the same ticket, with headphone commentary.

I was in Paris with some female friends the year 2000... Im still chocked when I think about how it really was. Well, the city is ok, and yes, there is some romantic places, but the people! Oh my... Heres a story: We were about 15 years back then, in 2000, and I sure hope its different now, 8 years later, but we were told that not to look in the eyes of any men, couse that could be dangerous... I dont know if thats just some bullshit, but yes, the men were like animals... and i dont mean it in a good way... You couldnt even pass on a shopping street without somebody tryin to touch you, saying something sexual, or trying to flirt... And then one evening I was attacked by some maybe about 17-year old boys, I guess they tried to rob me, but something scared them away... I still dont know if it was my elbow in the face of one of them, or that somebody saw them... So... would I ever visit Paris again? Maybe with 2 bodyguards. :)

There's a side-entrance to the Louvre Museum named Port de Lions. It's located between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont Royal in the southwing of the museum. If you don't want to wait for hours in line at the pyrmid, this is the way to be in the Louvre in 2 minutes.

If you don't have a fear of height, please go up with the elevator to the Eiffel Tower and look around. Being on the top of Paris is amazing and if the weather is good you can see very far.

The Bateaux Mouches were such a fun way to get a tour of Paris. The boats are narrated and go right along the Seine River. Plus I love the way that sounds when you pronounce it. I can say it 10x. Bateaux Mouches. :)

Don't go out in clothese that you would go clubbing in here in the UK, as the Parisians were a lot more laid back with their dressing up and we got a little mauled when we went - this is a tip from Parisian when we had to hide in a night cafe form scary guys!

Paris. My city of dream (I have 3). Culture, excuisite food, French people complaining all the time, taxi drivers driving like crazy, an efficient metro system, expensive hotels, cheap hotels. Champs Elysées. Place de la Concorde. Millions of nice restaurants. Louvre museum, Pompidou museum. Lido, Folie Bergères, Moulin Rouge, Crazy Horse Salon. Everything, 360 degrees, total excitement. The day I am rich, I will buy an apartment in Paris. Overlooking the Eifel tower.
