Languedoc-Roussillon People & Culture
Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Hihi, everyone who ever went to Montpellier knows the Australian Pub, oder?! Its quite expensive but just funfunfun if ure there with the "right" people;) Good tip? (+1) Perpignan, Languedoc-Roussillon, France great night life, welcoming people, lots to visit disover, great restaurants. Good tip? (0) Carcassonne, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Carcassonne is an ancient Roman walled city. You can walk on the walls! People still live within the walls of "La Cite!" Good tip? (0) Carcassonne, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Visit the Old Medieval City, even if it is so nice during Summer, there's too much people but anyway, you really have to visit that town for its historical impact on Southern France and Northern Spain... Good tip? (0) Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Off the beaten track for Americans, but if you live in Europe, or if you're looking for a base while traveling in southern France (from Carcassone or Toulouse in the west to Provence in the east, and all close to the Mediterrenean), it's a great place. For english-speakers, you'll find a reasonable number of people with at least a little english in the restaurants and stores (not common in the south) and two very good english book stores. There's an airport and a train station, as well. Good tip? (0) Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Great little city. Lived there for 5 years. Lots of young people, very rich cultural life, especially the Dance festival, the Internationales de la Guitare festival, the Festival des Fanfares and the Fete de la Musique (summer solstice every summer). 10km from the beach, nice weather pretty much all the time, probably the best quality/price ratio for food I've seen anywhere. Awesome place. Probably my favorite restaurant is l'Escalier. Cheap and good. Another good one is La Cheneraie, same street. For hanging out and having a drink, great atmosphere at the Bec de Jazz, Fitzpatrick, Rebuffy, Roule ma Poule, Le Petit Nice in Place Jean Jaures, and many others. Nice coffee/tea shop is Toast and Tea behind St Roch church. Good tip? (0) Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Montepellier is great palce to improve your french skills. It is a well known place where students from all over the world comes together, sepically art students. The beach is not far away (10min. with the bus) and in the city eg. Place de Comedi there are many charming cafes and boutiques. Furthermore Montpellier is the perfekt place if you are intentding to do any other trips. It is close by Spain (4h by train or car), not far away from the famous wine yards of Bordeaux and 1h from Avignon away.
All in all, it is a place where you have a good oppurtunity to get something about the culture and spend a splendid time with outgoing natives. Good tip? (0) Collioure, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Collioure is a little gem on the French-Spanish border with lovely views of the sea and the mountains... relax here and take in the other towns along the coast from here if you want ....its a quiet charming place ...at least in the day ... in the night some of the clubs in the centre play loud music that jars with the character of the place...but thats fun too when you want to chill out with a late-night drink ... go to a tapas bar and begin to get a flavour of Spain in this French border city... Good tip? (0) Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France In the middle of the city center there is wonderfull park, which is alive during the night. During summer time young people are having "picnic" parties, music and chats. The park is good even for sleeping. You just need a sleeping bag. Good tip? Good tip? (0) Mantet, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Mantet is very little village in South-France at the Pyrennees. Only few hours from Spanish border. Unbelievable beautiful view. Perfect place for hiking, climbing, horseback riding etc. Day trips to Perpignan, Olette (i always remember the market place there) or even over boarder to Spain or Andorra. And this is the place to stay http://girada.free.fr/ If you ever go there, give Mr. Adriaensen huge kiss from me Good tip? (0) Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Rent a bike! It's a great way to get around! Good tip? (0) La Franqui-Plage, Languedoc-Roussillon, France A place where there is always wind... almost ;) particularly in september...
so great for Windsurf Good tip? (0) Villeneuve-de-la-Raho, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Bom para relaxar, nadar e pescar (para quem gosta). De noite é dificil dormir. muito vento, raios e trovões.
Good for relaxing, swimming and fishing (if you like). it is difficult to sleep at night, much wind, thunder and lightning. Good tip? (0) Canet, Languedoc-Roussillon, France make sure you have something warm to wear as it gets pretty chilly at night by the sea - even in summer! Be patient and gentle with the locals, as they hardly speak any other languages and are not necessarily fond of tourists! Don't by things from market stands, they are usually too expensive for the goods available, and make sure you have a lot of cash! Invest in renting bikes, its super fun and a great wait to explore the place! Good tip? (0) Uzes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France A beautiful town easily combined with a trip to Pont-du-Gard. A lovely Chateau (Duche d'Uzes) with stunning views from the top of the tower (only for the fit or foolhardy!). A lovely town centre with many very solid buildings with solid shady stone arcades. The Cathedral (slighlty outside the centre) has an unusual and beautiful riound windowed tower, called the Fenestrelle. Good tip? (+1) Uzes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Go walking in and around Uzes - there are some really nice small backroads connecting farms surrounding the town with lots of willows and cyprus trees offering pleasant shade. If you go in August you might pass some fig trees that can be picked for their delicious fruit. Good tip? (+1) Sete, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Le Théatre de la Mer est LE bijou sétois pour les concerts en plein air, avec en toile de fond la mer ! Good tip? (+1) Rennes-le-Chateau, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Worth visiting, but you'll look like a nerd if you carry the Da Vinci Code. Just open your eyes and don't read Good tip?
