The coastline of Longues-sur-Mer is dotted with the remains of a coastal battery, dating back to WW2. The battery formed part of the Atlantikwall, designed to keep the allies from invading the European mainland.
The battery site is easily accessible to visitors; for history/film buffs, it is worth noting that scenes from "The Longest Day" can be spotted here.

A visit to the German artillery battery of the Atlantic Wall will impress you. The battery, constructed in 1944, was attacked by several allied bombings just one night before D-Day. The British 231st Infantry Brigade captured the battery on the 7th of June.
