Don't visit in winter, unless you're prepared for grey drear. When I visited Calais it was to go to the hypermarket with the people I was staying with, so I can contest that there's good shopping there, despite not knowing much about the actual town! Also, when I went, a small sandstorm was whipping along the (ugly, cabin-lined) beach, so we couldn't see the cliffs of Dover.

Ugly place! Waste of time! The people are unpolite!

The station of Lille is really beautiful, but one has to keep in mind that all this travelling attracts homeless people. When you are trying to get to your next train or when you are at the station just to look at the building, many homeless people will try to make you give them money, some of them are more agressive than others and many of them smell really bad. So try to keep in mind to not make eye-contact, usually they just leave you alone then.

Le Camel à Leon café. The music's not too loud, the crowd is an interesting mix of artists, bankers, cops, and more. Abdel, the owner, exhibits a different artist's work every month or so, and just about all of it is for sale.

Boulogne-sur-Mer has a very nice youth hostel. The bars aren't that good, but with some booze, you can have a lot of fun at the beach at night.

Nothing to do really, but still, there's the see!

Very typical restaurant : Le Bistrot Lillois, rue de Gand.

Wissant, c'est un bon village avec un très bon terrain de camping. Wissant est près de calais et à la plage. Avec une bonne vue, vous pouvez vue les falaises de dover !

A good travel tip is check you boot of your car before embarking the ferry from calais to dover !!!!!
