People in France

France has a population of about 65 million, of which just below 10 percent are foreign born immigrants from all over the world.

This lovely town is ideal for an easygoing walk, combined with shopping. The old houses are marvellous! The people there are very friendly and it's a warm atmosphere. Don't forget to eat crepes and all the other great food they sell in the restaurants and at take away stands on the street!

Great ferry trip (booze cruise) destination from England! For foreign travelers that have a lot of time in England and want a change have a quick day trip from Portsmouth to here and try some of the local cheese and wine, it makes for a much more cultured experience!

PARIS! 2nd best city in the world! (apart from my hometown Zurich) I have no further comment, since it is on TOP of my favourite destinations. Everything is just perfect: language, culture, food, nightlife, transport... just french "savoir vivre"!

Paris is most of all a city for tourists. If you're a stereo type, you should defenitely visit the Notre Dame (Ile de la Cité), Eiffel Tour, Montmartre, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Champs-Elysées, Sacre-Coeur, la Défense, de Tuileries and the Jardin du Luxembourg.
The metrosystem is really good and cheap in Paris, although very busy. The site www.ratp.fr. is the best to find information about this.

If you have more time you should check the parcs Parc André Citroën and Parc Bercy.
The neighbourhood le Marais is really interesting if you're looking for architecture and bars.
The best places to go out in the night (if you're young) are the areas known as Montparnasse and Quartier Latin.

More details will follow..

France Arts & Recreation
Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France
Bordeaux is a very nice town, I lived there for six months.
If you like to go out and like latin music, check out the Calle Ocho in the Rue du Loup. It's quite small and hot, but the atmosphere is amazing! For just grabbing a pint, I really enjoyed the Houses of Parliament, an English pub in the rue du parlement.
The rue Ste-Catherine is Bordeaux' shopping street and is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe. If you don't find what you're looking for there, you won't find it anywhere.
A very nice calm place to sit and enjoy the surroundings is at the hôtel de ville, and also the place Gambetta.
The city has a lot of public transport (trams busses), but most things are within walking range.

Food in France
Reims, Champagne-Ardenne, France
The main attraction in Reims is the beautiful flamboyant Gothic cathedral, where numerous French kings were crowned. The cathedral also features stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. But it's also a wonderful little town for wandering in, and the extra bonus is that you are in Champagne. You can get a taste of the very finest Champagnes, either in a glass, or worked into all manner of dishes, like a Champagne-vinaigrette-dressed salad, or chicken braised in Champagne.

There's a side-entrance to the Louvre Museum named Port de Lions. It's located between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont Royal in the southwing of the museum. If you don't want to wait for hours in line at the pyrmid, this is the way to be in the Louvre in 2 minutes.

Parking is quite restricted and pou are unlikely to get away without having to pay. If you have kids with you, walk past the tourist shops and follow the river. There are some great areas to scramble over the rocks.

France Government
Paris, Ile-de-France, France
I am an American/German, and in 2002 I took a road trip throughout northwestern Europe. When I first came into France I was surprised to find how expensive the tolls were on the roads. If you are going to drive through France on the highways, bring about a hundred dollars for the tolls. I drove a long distance on these roads, however I spent more in tolls than on gas. I will leave the rest of the french cities out of this description. As an American citizen I had heard many stories about the rudeness of French people, and Parisians in particular. I must disagree with this common preconception. The only place I encountered any such behavior was in the city of Dunquerke (Dunkirk). As for what struck me most about this city, the clearest memory of the place was how extremely large the city is. I have lived in and visited many more-populated cities, but I have never seen a city that seemingly was a 40 Km (25 mi) diameter of continuous urban setup. My first tip is if you fly into Paris, look at it on landing approach. As for activities, aside from the famous sights (Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, etc.), I suggest a conversation with a local. I had a long discussion with the innkeeper of my hotel. It was very interesting to hear a perspective from the general citizen who doesn't get onto the news to declare his hatred for the world. I don't like what any government on earth does, but I am unwilling to assume that every German hates Jews, that all Polish are stupid, or that all Muslims want to kill me and my family. If you need any ideas of what to do in Paris, read the book 'A Moveable Feast' by Earnest Hemingway. It is all about life in Paris. Enjoy your trip. -MARK
