This region is located in the south of France along the Mediterranean sea.  Its main cities are Marseille and Nice.  This region combines mountains and sea and has a sunny, warm climate and a luminous sky; it is extremely attractive to tourists (number one region in France for tourism). On the west are the Alps (Alpes du sud) and on the est is the Rhone valley which goes through Provence ( with its rows of "cypres", fields of olive trees, fig trees and vineyards)before reaching the Mediterranean sea.  Go to “marchés de Provence” - open colorful markets with fresh fruits, vegetables and local specialities. The south mediterranean cost (Cote d'Azur) is colorful and stunning.  Lamb, provencal fruits and herbs, olive oil, melons, honey, pastis, fish and seafood, tapenade, bull are some of its food specialties.

Parking is quite restricted and pou are unlikely to get away without having to pay. If you have kids with you, walk past the tourist shops and follow the river. There are some great areas to scramble over the rocks.

Lovely beaches (no braws, like all over Europe) , everyone is crossing streets on red lights, you can do it too, but be aware of the traffic nevertheless. A short train ride to Monaco and Kann, you should visit those places too if you are near the region ...
