Travel Tips from people who've been to Menton
Menton is the first city you'll encounter in the French riviera coming from Italy. It's a small pittoresque village with nice beaches (2 small sandy coves, and a long beach mostly of gravel and stones with clear water) In summer it becomes very alive with tourist, so the best season to appreciate it is actually late spring or early fall. Very easy acess to Monaco/Montecarlo and Nice and at a better price. Don't miss the market in Ventimiglia (Italy) about 15 minutes drive and a tour of the prehistoric caves of Balzi Rossi right at the former border patrol booth. When in Menton, just walk around the main street (closed to cars) sit at an outdoor cafe and enjoy a "pan bagna'" which is the typical sandwich of the region. You'll love it. Good tip? Menton où se déroule chaque année la fête du citron en février, est une ville lumineuse et douce avec les volets de ses maisons aux couleurs pimpantes, ses petits restos en bord de mer et la simplicité et la gentillesse de ses habitants.
