Tarascon Travel Guide

Not highly rated in most guide books, but thoroughly worth a short visit. The mediaval street plan and houses are all here, but most of the walls have been removed. There is large castle with huge solid fortifications situated right on the Rhone and opposite the finer but less impressive castle of Beaucaire just across the river. If you are in the town  in spring, listen to the frogs in the castle moat, the sound can be deafening! There aren't many places to eat out of season.
