Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Beautiful town, famous for its medieval popes and, more recently, as a subject in the French children's song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon" (I only mention it because I couldn't get it out of my head the whole time I was there. So annoying!)
Definitely best time to visit is the summer - while the internationally famous Avignon Festival is on. Great theatre and dance performances - both as part of the official festival and throughout the town streets.

Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Near to the Pope Palace, go upstairs and visit the gardens. It's perfect for children and adults, plus : the most beautiful view on the River Rhone and the vicinity.
Don't know where to eat? Go to Place de l'Horloge, and you'll find plenty of restaurants in a shaded area under the plane trees, with an old caroussel, the Town hall and the theater.

Sur le pont d'Avignon
Avignon is commemorated by the French children's song, "Sur le pont d'Avignon" ("On the bridge of Avignon"), which describes folk dancing. The bridge of the song is the Saint Bénézet bridge, over the Rhône River,
of which only four arches (out of the initial 22) remain which start
from the Avignon side of the river. In fact people would have danced beneath the bridge (sous le pont) where it crossed an island (Ile de Barthelasse) on its way to Villeneuve-lès-Avignon.
The bridge was initially built between 1171 and 1185, with an original
length of some 900 m (2950 ft), but it suffered frequent collapses
during floods and had to be reconstructed several times. Several arches
were already missing (and spanned by wooden sections) before the
remainder were destroyed in 1660.

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Lovely beaches (no braws, like all over Europe) , everyone is crossing streets on red lights, you can do it too, but be aware of the traffic nevertheless. A short train ride to Monaco and Kann, you should visit those places too if you are near the region ...

Hyeres has a great karting track and the bars on the marina a really nice in the evenings. it can get a bit crowded on summer weekends. The Presqu'ile de Giens, and lsland of Porquerolles are definitely worth a day for their (almost) quiet white sand beaches.

Hyeres, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
