France What to Expect
Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France Parking is quite restricted and pou are unlikely to get away without having to pay. If you have kids with you, walk past the tourist shops and follow the river. There are some great areas to scramble over the rocks. Good tip? (+2) Versailles, Ile-de-France, France Take the RER (line C) I think from the station adjacent to Porte de Versailles. Train takes about 45 minutes, ignore the beggars on it (why does such a crap train goto such a lovely place??) and get off at the end of the line. Turn right down the main street, and about 200 metres up the road there is a huge boulevard and voila! The Chateau de Versailles. Beauty of the place is probably lost on children (and the uneducated) but to history buffs it is gorgeous and fascinating. Buy the full ticket including the estate of Marie Antoinette, but just check everything will be open on your visit. Audioguide is included in price, but train ride around park isn't. Don't buy expensive food in the parks - McDonalds opposite train station offers a slightly cheaper option!! Good tip? (0) Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, Brittany, France A lovely beach for the kids. Great views of the mussel beds. Good tip? (0) Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France Beautiful town, famous for its medieval popes and, more recently, as a subject in the French children's song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon" (I only mention it because I couldn't get it out of my head the whole time I was there. So annoying!) Definitely best time to visit is the summer - while the internationally famous Avignon Festival is on. Great theatre and dance performances - both as part of the official festival and throughout the town streets. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Visit the Eiffel tower, and use the stairs, it uses up plenty of time and is good exercise. Also if you have young children, be sure to visit disney land paris. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France If your a guy DO NOT goto this city!!! If you are female or of alternative lifestyle this may the city for you. People are rude and very unfriendly to everyone except to the fairer sex! Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France Grab a Metro pass for however many days you need at the airport when you arrive. It's an easy enough system to understand. Also it's nice to just walk. As a female traveller I felt safe enough. Obviously didn't take stupid risks and was aware of my surrounds but there were always enough people around. Also grab a museum pass as it helps to skip the lines - or at least be in the shorter one. There is also a group of open topped buses where you buy a 24 hr pass and can hop on and off and they have 4 routes covered under the same ticket, with headphone commentary. Good tip? (0) Paris, Ile-de-France, France I was in Paris with some female friends the year 2000... Im still chocked when I think about how it really was. Well, the city is ok, and yes, there is some romantic places, but the people! Oh my... Heres a story: We were about 15 years back then, in 2000, and I sure hope its different now, 8 years later, but we were told that not to look in the eyes of any men, couse that could be dangerous... I dont know if thats just some bullshit, but yes, the men were like animals... and i dont mean it in a good way... You couldnt even pass on a shopping street without somebody tryin to touch you, saying something sexual, or trying to flirt... And then one evening I was attacked by some maybe about 17-year old boys, I guess they tried to rob me, but something scared them away... I still dont know if it was my elbow in the face of one of them, or that somebody saw them... So... would I ever visit Paris again? Maybe with 2 bodyguards. :) Good tip? (0) Reims, Champagne-Ardenne, France The main attraction in Reims is the beautiful flamboyant Gothic cathedral, where numerous French kings were crowned. The cathedral also features stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. But it's also a wonderful little town for wandering in, and the extra bonus is that you are in Champagne. You can get a taste of the very finest Champagnes, either in a glass, or worked into all manner of dishes, like a Champagne-vinaigrette-dressed salad, or chicken braised in Champagne. Good tip? (+3) Strasbourg, Alsace, France if you want to eat something very good, go to LITTLE FRANCE area! Good tip? (+3) Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France Bordeaux is a very nice town, I lived there for six months. If you like to go out and like latin music, check out the Calle Ocho in the Rue du Loup. It's quite small and hot, but the atmosphere is amazing! For just grabbing a pint, I really enjoyed the Houses of Parliament, an English pub in the rue du parlement. The rue Ste-Catherine is Bordeaux' shopping street and is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe. If you don't find what you're looking for there, you won't find it anywhere. A very nice calm place to sit and enjoy the surroundings is at the hôtel de ville, and also the place Gambetta. The city has a lot of public transport (trams busses), but most things are within walking range. Good tip? (+3) Paris, Ile-de-France, France There's a side-entrance to the Louvre Museum named Port de Lions. It's located between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont Royal in the southwing of the museum. If you don't want to wait for hours in line at the pyrmid, this is the way to be in the Louvre in 2 minutes. Good tip? (+2) Aresquies, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Belle plage et bon spot de chasse sous-marine, de pêche hors saison. Good tip? (+1) Hyeres, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France Ma ville d'accueil. Que dire à part que cette ville regorge de trésors des temps anciens, qu'elle chante au son des cigales et du mistral l'été, elle conserve tout son charme en hiver et les ballades ne manquent pas notamment aux abords de la presqu'île de Giens. Good tip? (+1) Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France boire un verre sur la Place Jean JAURES...
flaner sur la Place de La COMEDIE...
shopping dans "l'écusson" pietonnier... Good tip? (+1) Vittel, Lorraine, France La célèbrissime ville de l'eau est vraiment incontournable ! Good tip? (0) Lyon, Rhone-Alpes, France A beautiful city, a lot of people, parties and gigs ! Good tip? (0) |
