Travel Tips from people who've been to Banjul
Avoid the "Ferry Guest House" in the city of Banjul, althogh it is in some older, obviously out-of-date version of the Lonely Planet travellers book, described as a low-budget, cozy and nice place... It is more like some mixture of a brothel and a junkie place where you can get planted some drugs and than the so-called policemen come busting in your room with no possibility to lock the door... At the daytime nobody is there, but at night the place gets filled with suspicious looking people... I only spend my first night there after arriving to the airport before going out to the country, so really I advise you to pick some other place to crash in when in need... Like in most places, ferry ports, railway stations and bus stations, sometimes outside airports, are usually a common place to people who like to hassle a lot... Good tip? (0) People trying to sell you things will often grab hold of you if you show interest in the stuff they sell, just ingnore them and say you have no money left or something. Dont give them eye contact. Never accept the 1st price they give you or the sob story, theyre having you on! Good tip? (0) Take the passenger ferry from banjul to Barra (and back again) - great views of Banjul, mingle with the locals. Can go from Barra to the villages. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Banjul
