The Gaza Strip is part of the Palestinian Territories, and is a narrow strip of land on the coast of Israel. It is one of the most densely populated places in the world, with nearly 1.5 million inhabitants crammed into a few hundred square kilometres. Israel turned over the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority in 2005, but still retains control of most of the border, and there is a metal fence and a buffer zone separating the Gaza Strip from Israel. Continuing turmoil often makes the Gaza Strip dangerous to visit. There are three main towns in the Gaza Strip – Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Rafah. As well, there are eight refugee camps that are serviced by the United Nations,and contain a substantial proportion of Gaza’s population
