Travel Tips from people who've been to Qazbegi
Driving up the "Georgian Military Highway" towards the closed and sealed border with North Ossetia, Russia - one needs a four-wheel drive to get around the potholes in the road. The border between Europe and Asia is marked by an unadorned cross and the driver got incensed when I suggested this was the continental boundary as he said - all Georgian and Armenians are European - look at us! Yikes! Anyway, Kazbegi was amazingly beautiful. We stayed at the driver's house which was nice, and drove the next day to the sealed international boundary near to Ingushetia and North Ossetia. More cows were sleeping on the "highway" than there were cars on it. One thing - every shashlik place we tried to stop at between 4 and 7 PM on the GMH was either completely full, or closed. Plan in advance, and eat early! We started trying every place after the reservoir heading north! Good tip? (0) A fantasitc place to be. Ask around to stay at a farmhouse. Great people, nice food and absolutly peacefull. Buy some food at the little shop in the middle of the town and then clime the mountains. Brilliant. Or dig in the old Sovjet time by visiting the old and abandoned Intourist hotel. Climb over the fence so see it closer. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Qazbegi
