Ladenburg Travel Guide

The restaurant, Die Kartoffel, in the quaint and historic town of Ladenburg, is a must-visit for anyone travelling in the Mannheim/Heidelberg area of Germany. The downstairs portion of the restaurant is an orignal and intact cellar from the 1300s and is not to be missed. The best option on the menu is the steak (many varities) that comes out on a hot stone - you cook it yourself, to your liking.  It comes with three dipping sauces and is incredibly delicious.  The scent of the restaurant can be picked up well before you get to the door. Try this restaurant and you will want to go back again and again...  

If you are hungry during your tour of the Roman city of Ladenburg, eat at Die Kartoffel.  Although they specialize in steaks cooked on hot stones, all but the stuffiest of vegetarians will leave well-fed.  Excellent baked potatoes, salads, soups and good steaks abound and they speak English.
