Lovely small village. Has quiet but sufficient ski runs - cheap lift passes and ski/boot hire too! You can visit "Sleeping Beauty's Castle" - aka Schloss Neuschwanstein. Or another castle which is opposite called Schwangau. Try "Kartoffelnsalat" which is a delicious potato salad that usually comes with a huge German sausage...yum! Also, in the main shopping area of the village, above a chocolate/cake shop, there is a lovely tea room where you can have home made soups (try the tomato and basil or broccoli), cakes/pastries or lovely ice-cream sundaes. Our favourite is always the vanilla ice-cream with hot raspberry sauce - with or without whipped cream is your choice! Everyone here is always friendly and we always have a lovely skiing holiday here - even when there is no snow as we go to Austria which is nearby!
There's far more to see in this small Bavarian town than you might expect and I recommend at least half a day. make sure you take in the castle to see its highly decorated walls and views from the battlements. We went late (4:45) and got in for free for the last 15 minutes. If youWalk through into the park and down to the river to get great views of the town. You'll be spoilt for choices of where to eat, but beware it gets busy.
A small town in Germany near the border of Austria but worth going to because there are two castles built in the 1800s which are famous. Schwannstein is the older of the two and painted yellow and the younger and more famous is Neuschwannstein is the larger and painted white. It is this white castle with its towers, walls and main keep and that Walt Disney copied when building Disneyland in LA.
