Travel Tips from people who've been to Passau
For a really great view over Passau, cross the bridge from the old town to Innstadt on the far side of the River Inn. Then follow the road up the hill, signposted Scharding. After a few hundred meters of a steep uphill walk, you come to Kloster Marianhilf. It has one of the best viewpoints in Passau, with views over the river Inn, the old town and the Castle on the far side of the River Danube. Walk back down the same route or take the cover passage (Wallfahrt) that brings you out near the Innstadt Brewery.

I found that the best way to get to know Passau is to just take a walk from the train station all the way down to the end of the triangle, while making sure to take in the major sights (like the church organ that you have to see to believe).  Passau is manageable in one day, even while taking the time to enjoy the incredible views across the river.

Find "Hell's Lane" in the centre of the old town, plenty of nice little places to eat there and usually they're more quiet (not so many tourists and organised tours) than the ones that are less out of the way.
