Even if you see nothing else, walk along the East Side Gallery, a section of the Berlin Wall grafitied by a group of international artists. It's a shame that people feel a need to write messages on it, but it's still worth seeing.

I highly recommend buying the city tour bus pass, it allows you access to most of the city and runs all day long. Find a site that sounds interesting and get off to look around (head-set provides descriptions as the bus approaches each site). Also, get used to using the subway, it's invaluable for getting around. I'm sure everyone says this, but I'll re-iterate that Checkpoint Charlie is a must-see. The museum is such a powerful reminder of the atrocities that took place on the other side of the wall and I was absolutely amazed by all the ways people escaped.

There's a restaurant in Berlin worth visiting, called the 'Weinerei', it's in the Zionskirchgasse, Prenzlauerberg. Great food, good wine, nice people, and the brilliant thing is: there's no fixed prices! You just pay what you think is fair... Make sure you have a reservation by the way, it gets pretty crowded.

Hi there!!! Frist of all viele danke meine susse Polizei!!! You have safed my life picking up me for the bus station dear, and actually safe my opinion about this part of Germany baby, because i was going to leave this city with such a poor mind about people there with no knowledge about any other countries and/or other languages!!! I was there on International Tourism Trades and btw. walked a bit in city centre seeing Reichstag, Branderburger Tor, Charlottenburg.. If the weather is sunny awesome view from Fernsehturm! The best book and music shop at FriedrischStrasse, to qucikly moving in the town use the train stations, dont take the buses and underground stops too often, too many stops :-) And on the ZooStation you can still meet drunk homeless people with drugs like that was 20 years ago The real Berlin.. hmm.. very hard city belive me! P.S. From Poznan, the city on the way from Warsaw - the capital of Poland to Berlin you can get for 20 euros by the inter city train in less than 3 hours!

After London the second best place in Europe. I really like the laid back style of the citizens. Its a nice place with a lot of culture and a proper nightlife. They got all the luxuries you can wish, but they also have real good places for backpackers. Definitly go to friedrichstrasse....lots of pubs, clubs and bars. One of the best places i have been!!!!

Berlin is located in Northeastern Germany, a few miles from the Polish and Czech borders and on the Havel and Spree Rivers . The city is ideally located to tour castles, historic sites and lovely countryside areas in addition to spending time exploring one of the great capitols of the world. Berlin is one of the most important cities in Europe and is a beautiful city to visit - you can take in a multitude of sites as well as eat well, enjoy the nightlife, eat to your hearts delight and discover the heart of Germany . While you might be interested in visiting Berlin to visit the Berlin Wall or explore old East Germany , you might be disappointed. What remains of the Berlin Wall are stretches of graffiti covered walls that in no way resemble the Weeping Wall in Israel or the Great Wall of China . This great city is the seat of history for Europe - the capitol of Prussia and the headquarters of the Hitler regime (a dubious honor), Berlin is definitely one city you must see when visiting Germany . Whether you are a fan of German culture, a history buff, or a music enthusiast, you need to include Berlin on your itinerary.

East meets west. A very vibrant city and cultures from all around the world. A must is the shopping centre "Kaufhaus des Westens" and the zoo. For those interested in history check out the "Check point Charlie" and maybe you still find a piece of the wall somewhere. The nightlife offers a wide range for every taste.

When in Berlin, go to oranienburgerstrasse (East berlin)and have a look at Tacheless. You will find a lot of art, a café, a bar/lounge and a small cinema here. Very cool place! If you are young and like electronic/indie/balkan/reggae music and underground places you must find your way to Rosis, which is a very cool, dark, underground, cozy place. Revaler str.29. East Berlin

East Berlin and nightlife is a sweet combination for someone looking for inexpensive beer and chilling. For the rock/metal people East Berlin feels like home. Lots of nice, somewhat modest -both in size and decoration wise- metal/rock bars in the East Berlin area can be found. I.e. Punk/hc metal based Amnesie ( www. amnesie -online.de) with occational live shows, Halford club apparently for more traditional heavy metal and Paules Metal Eck (http://www.paules-metal-eck.de/), which was by far the cosiest metal bar I myself visited during my stay at the Friedrichshain area. Prices are very decent, pints are full and the local bartenders friendly yet not that keen to discuss with the tourists. Athmosphere is introverted, but at least you get to relax and observe rather than getting into too much interaction with the native drunken metalheads - who are, as far as I know - very serious about their musical orientations, especially the old school people. If you succeed in getting to talk to the locals they most likely turn out to be very nice and polite under their grumpy, shy masks, but it seems to me they would rather consentrate on staying in their own small group of friends, leaving out occational and more likely accidential glimpses at the weird outsiders intruding their home bar, still remaining polite and friendly if interaction should happen. As for women, in metal/rock bars there is hardly any trouble with harrassing men as there are none (see description above, lol). Streets are mostly safe, and by night populated with mostly foreign and local students only interested in drinking and partying. If not making any trouble, there is only a very slim chance of getting into one. Some descreteness, especially in areas known to be populated by neonazis, is encouraged, though. Best thing especially for the Norther Europeans with their excessive drinking habits, is that when ever you swich bars you can purchase a beer, a liquor or wine bottle of your preference from any corner store on the way all night through. Bars close their doors when costumers finally leave or pass out, but as there is access to alcohol any time, the party is never over. Gotta love you, East Berlin, gotta love you.

Berlin is a charged up city with lots to do... from the remnants of the Berlin Wall and the nearby history museum to Nazi landmarks and so much more ... a good way to get introduced is to take one of the many walking tours on offer ... the tour guides will also offer you good tips on cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs ... of which there are plenty in Berlin... a night at a techno playing club is needed (even if you are not into it) to understand how deeply this city throbs with this music and its associated range in the form of piercings, tattoos, punk hairdos and the like... it seems to be everywhere in Berlin...

Make sure to always buy a ticket in the subway, as you'll get charged 40 euros on the spot if you don't. You can also rent a bike, which would be a good idea, since Berlin is not that huge and is very flat indeed.

Mike's Bike tours was the BEST way to see Berlin. A full day tour kicking off at Alexanderplatz, the tour even stops at a very educational beer garden for lunch. :) The guide gives the history of each site visited and always has excellent control of the group.

Berlin is an amazing place full of wonders and hidden beauty. You'll need more than a weekend to fully explore the place, but it'll be worth it. Don't forget to get a kebab, the best kebabs in Europe are to be found in Berlin.
