Berlin Travel Guide

Berlin, the capital city of Germany, is a major centre of culture, politics, science and the media. Berlin served sequentially as capital of Prussia (1701-1918), of the
German Empire (1871-1918), of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933 and of the Third Reich (1933-1945) After the second world war, the city was divided into East Berlin, the capital of East Germany, and West Berlin,
which was surrounded by the Berlin Wall. Following reunification, in 1990, Berlin once more became the capital of all Germany.

The modern Berlin is home to world famous universities, research institutes, sporting events, orchestras and museums and is a vibrant, broad-based centre of intellectual life being internationally recognized for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts and high quality of living.  

Some top sights include the Berlin Zoo, the Reichstag, Alexander Platz, Potsdamer Platz, and the Pergamon Museum.  You can also visit Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, which is a fascinating museum detailing the history of the wall and the escape attempts.
