Bremen Region Travel Guide

A must see if you are in Northern Germany... not for specific attractions but for its general atmosphere... along the lines of Lubeck and more charming than nearby Hamburg...

 

One of my favorite cities in the world! Make sure to tour the Beck's Brewery. Yes yes, Beck is actually from Germany, and you can see where it all started, and learn how the same beer is brewed in both Bremen and Philly (though Germans will always insist the brew is better in Germany, and I have to agree). Visit the Port where millions left durring the emigration, headed for America. Who know, you may even have some deep roots lying in Bremen.

Purchasing a Schonnes Wochenende Karte (good weekend ticket) it the best way to get around this area on the weekends. This ticket runs about $30 dollars, but for you get unlimited train, bus and streetcar usage for friday, saturday AND sunday. Take a trip to Oldenburg and see the historical city that was its own country until not so long ago (complete with castle and medieval lutheran church).
