I loved the kunsthalle. also, the st.pauli quarter was amazing :). i also like the fischmarkt in the harbour. the sellers auction off their stuff: they put various kinds of fruit, vegetables or smoked fish in one basket and give a starting price. then people shout out their offers, and somebody gets to take the basket home. we bought a fruit basket. great value for money :)

Hamburg is the place that gave us the name for the hamburger, but you are an idiot if that is what you order here. Instead, get a local beer, a local wurst and some frites with some vollkorn bread. Heaven! The square around the catherdral is great for people watching.

Hamburg is best visited in spring or summer. A typical Hamburg visit includes a tour of the city hall and the grand church St. Michaelis (called the Michel), and visiting the old warehouse district (Speicherstadt) and the harbour promenade (Landungsbrücken). Sightseeing buses connect these points of interest. Of course, a visit in one of the world's largest harbours would be incomplete without having taken one of the harbour and/or canal boat tours (Große Hafenrundfahrt, Fleetfahrt) which start from the Landungsbrücken. Major destinations include also museums such as the Art Gallery and Gallery of Contemporary Arts. Many visitors, especially those with a taste for the low life, take a walk in the evening around the area of Reeperbahn in the quarter St. Pauli, considered Europe's largest red light district and home of many strip clubs, bars and nightclubs. The singer and actor Hans Albers is strongly associated with St. Pauli, providing in the 1940s the neighbourhood's unofficial anthem, "Auf der Reeperbahn Nachts um Halb Eins." The song explains in a polite way how a sailor enjoys his last day with a trollop before going aboard. It was in the Reeperbahn that The Beatles began their career with a 48-night residency at the Indra Club, and then another 58 nights at the Kaiserkeller, in 1960, the Top Ten Club (1961), and the Star-Club (1962). Others prefer the laidback neighbourhood Schanze with its street cafés or a barbecue on one of the beaches along the river Elbe. Hamburg's famous zoo, the Tierpark Hagenbeck, was founded in 1907 by Carl Hagenbeck as the first zoo with moated, barless enclosures. A friend of Hagenbeck's, the illustrator Heinrich Leutemann made some illustrations here. Quite common is a tour through Northern Germany with Hamburg as a starting point or stop-over. However, most people visit Hamburg because of a specific interest, notably one of the musicals, a sports event, a congress or fair. Therefore, in 2005, the average visitor spent two nights in Hamburg. The majority of visitors come from Germany (80%); most foreigners are European, especially from the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and the largest group from outside Europe comes from the U.S. An interesting footnote is the high number of rich guests from the Arabian peninsula, who seek treatment in one of Hamburg's hospitals.

Hamburg is in my eyes the most beautiful city in Germany. It has flair, people are "special" but very friendly, there is a lot to see (guided city tours with great histoty), awesome nightlife and many shopping possibilities. It`s totally worth to do a guided tour around the Habour of Hamburg, the so called "Door to World". Farries to New York leave there and only a few times a year, great ships like the Queen Mary and the MS Europe meet in the Habour. You can also visit the Musical "The Lion King" in Hamburg. A farrie brings you to the musical hall and gets you back to the habour- very special.

When in Hamburg, there are 3 things you must do: aa) visit the harbour bb) visit the reeperbahn (nightlife) cc) enjoy a musical. And should you have a day left, why not discover the surroundings for example "das alte Land", direction of Stade/Cuxhaven. The best time for this is in spring, when all trees are in full blossom.

Hamburg is a great place to party. Not only is the biggest red light district there, but also a whole lot of great places to party thru the night. Their are two major party districts. The first and most famous, is the "Reperbahn". Thats where all the red light bars and clubs are, and of course all the normal clubs and bars. Just keep out of all those red light places, they are a rip off, and not worth it at all! But theirs many other places to go. You will find all kinds of music, from Electro to Hip-Hop and Rock. The admissions are quite low, so you can easily afford to hop from club to club. Admissions are normally from 5 to 10 Euros. If you feel more like having some drinks and hanging around some bars, check out the district "Stern Schanze" Lot of students hang around here, so the atmosphere is very relaxed. Enjoy your stay!
