Lower Saxony Region People & Culture
Hannover, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Like any other city in Germany, Hannover is a good place and stop to take. Loads of greenery to absorb the people are friendly [ dont be fooled by te hard exteria] A must stop is the animal sactuary up on the mountains and plaease leave a donation the animals there really need all the support. Public transportation [ like it is everywhere in Germany] is very good so you will never be lost or destitute Good tip? (0) Hannover, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Definately would say that as a 15 yr old traveling alone i learned quick and learned things the hard way. The variety of cultures and backgrounds behind the people you assume to be locals are amazing. Just sitting at the bar with a smile on your face encourages others to strike up a conversation with you. Although my knowledge of German was limited.. it was surprising how many people are comprehendable in English. I'd met many people who originated from my home country or other places i'd visited. In any case, one thing i wish i'd been careful about was divulging too much information and seeming too interested in conversing with both men and women. Best way to learn as you will remember those touch and go situations for the rest of your life and will never repeat the same mistake again. In any case.. better to take the advice of others and learn from others.. better to learn off someone else's mistakes than your own truth be told. Good tip? (0) Diepholz, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Diepholz may be small, but there's beautiful nature around and old castle where they used to make coins. Really nice place. I wish to get back there to that kind people!! Good tip? (0) Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony Region, Germany There are many different restaurants in the city centre from a variety of different cultures. Larger, well known restaurants are always busier however you can always find a place to dine that offers superb quality. Good tip? (0) Oldenburg, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Oldenburg is simply my favorite city in Germany. Go shopping in cobble-stoned Downtown, a strictly pedestrian center for culture, music and history. Cafes line the streets, with a weekly farmers market featured in Julius Mosen Platz. Everything is within bike riding distance and the city is easy to navigate. Good tip? (0) Luneburg, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Fun Lollipop Disco, with different kinds of music.
Sometimes they have Karaoke there - IT'S SOOOO FUN :P Good tip? (0) Oldenburg, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Oldenburg is simply my favorite city in Germany. If you're looking for something different, Charlies is one street away, playing rock music and serving cold beer. The Fiddler's Green is this town's light-hearted Irish Pub, feature dart tournaments and weekly pub quiz. These are just some of my favorites, but Oldenburg has a thriving nightlife with many options, and late-night buses to haul you back to your hotel if need be :D Good tip? (0) Norden, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Best Pub in town! Rock music, tablefootball, cola/korn Good tip? (0) Emden, Lower Saxony Region, Germany I went to school in Emden for a year, and spent some part of almost every day walking around. There is a great bike path along the city wall, a great farmer's market three days a week, and lots of small local stores. There are some interesting places to see, like the ruins of a church that was bombed in World War 2, a museum inside City Hall, and another one in a WW2 bunker/bomb shelter. Best of all the museums is the Henri Nannen art museum. Good tip? (0) Oldenburg, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Oldenburg is simply my favorite city in Germany. Also a very nice region to go hiking. Good tip? (0) Buchholz in der Nordheide, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Buchholz is located close to Hamburg which makes it an ideal spot for a week-end trip from Hamburg. Several restaurants and cafes offer delicious regional food for reasonable prices. If you want to enjoy the unique landscape of the surrounding heathland you won't be disappointed by the offer of walkings tracks. If you are interested in butterflies, just take a visit to the Alaris butterfly park. It's worth a visit! Good tip? (0) Stade, Lower Saxony Region, Germany If you are in the Hamburg area, make the effort ot visit Stade. There is a fantastically preserved old town, easily covered by foot with some great little gift shops. Combine the visit with a drive into the 'Altes Land', an area of great expanses of fruit tress and huge half timebered farmhouses. A real unknown area. Good tip? (0) Celle, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Celle is a small town in northern Germany. It is a fantastic century-old german town that is dominated by those old, classic 'ginger bread' style houses and cobble stone streets. There are plaenty of places to stay and the food, beer and atmosphere is brilliant. Good tip? (0) Hannover, Lower Saxony Region, Germany I'm a Hanoverian lady and quite a sight to see, no? ;-) and it's only one hour to Hamburg resp. one hour and a half to Berlin. Plus, we've got ancient history that links us to the brits - from Hanover to London by plane in about one hour... and back to the 17th history. Some George the ... was king of Hanover and the nowadays U.K. - that's why we got the Royal Gardens here, worth seeing. And the "Welfenschloss" (George was one of them) - which is now the main University. Disclaimer: Don't pin me against the wall if the historical facts aren't perfectly accurate. Thanks for your understanding and come and visit! P.S.: If anyone from abroad wants to learn german or study in Germany - Hanover is the place to be: Wir sprechen Hochdeutsch :-) Good tip? (0) Hannover, Lower Saxony Region, Germany Hannover is not a normal German city. Largely destroyed in the war most of Hannover is fairly bland. There are great parks and lakes where you can skate or cycle or whatever for km's. Good shopping in city centre for the babes, and of course it has the Messe which has gotta be one of the largest fair grounds in the world. Good tip? (0) |
