Stade, Lower Saxony Region, Germany
If you are in the Hamburg area, make the effort ot visit Stade. There is a fantastically preserved old town, easily covered by foot with some great little gift shops. Combine the visit with a drive into the 'Altes Land', an area of great expanses of fruit tress and huge half timebered farmhouses. A real unknown area.

Hannover, Lower Saxony Region, Germany
I'm a Hanoverian lady and quite a sight to see, no? ;-) and it's only one hour to Hamburg resp. one hour and a half to Berlin. Plus, we've got ancient history that links us to the brits - from Hanover to London by plane in about one hour... and back to the 17th history. Some George the ... was king of Hanover and the nowadays U.K. - that's why we got the Royal Gardens here, worth seeing. And the "Welfenschloss" (George was one of them) - which is now the main University. Disclaimer: Don't pin me against the wall if the historical facts aren't perfectly accurate. Thanks for your understanding and come and visit!
P.S.: If anyone from abroad wants to learn german or study in Germany - Hanover is the place to be: Wir sprechen Hochdeutsch :-)

Hannover, Lower Saxony Region, Germany
Hannover is not a normal German city. Largely destroyed in the war most of Hannover is fairly bland. There are great parks and lakes where you can skate or cycle or whatever for km's. Good shopping in city centre for the babes, and of course it has the Messe which has gotta be one of the largest fair grounds in the world.
