Overall Munster is well known for being the 'city of bikes' so why not rent a bike and get to know the city pedalling around.
During summer, it is worthwhile to go for a stroll along the Aasee!
For those who don't favour water, walk around Munster's old part of the city centre (called 'Altstadt') with its traditional architecture, impressive dom and university.
If you enjoy long walks, I'd recommend taking the 'Promenade'.
For a refreshment try 'Vollmers' which serves excellent coffee! (true coffee, the opposite of what Starbucks tends to serve) You may find it under following address: Hötteweg 11, 48143 Münster

Munster is a university town jammed with young people and other than Amsterdam and Beijing, I have never seen a place with more bicycles. There are numerous sidewalk locations where you can relax and enjoy the passing parade. Since this is a university town, the coffee here seems particularly good and the pastries even better elsewhere in Germany. Perhaps my palate was just energized more by the youthful energy of this old city. Do not miss the Residenz Schloss (castle) which is the now the nerve center for the university. It is set in a parklike garden.
