Travel Tips from people who've been to Saarbrucken
Ideally located in Western Germany, less than a 100km from Luxembourg and about 100km (+/- 60mi.) from Strasbourg. Very nice region with the river Saar. Close to the well known Saarschleife in Mettlach, a big riverbend. Not too far from a huge Outlet Shopping Mall, situated in Ludwigshafen and one in Zweibrücken. Germany in general ist relatively cheap when it comes to eating out. Together with Zweibrücken, 2 airport served by a number of so to say low-cost airlines, which are: Air Berlin, Condor, Germanwings, tuifly and also served by Luxair (Munich, Hamburg , London City and obviously Luxembourg), but there's also a bus linking Saarbr. and Luxembourg 4x a day (1h15 more or less), train links to Frankfurt and Trier (the oldest city in Germany)

If you like shopping, Saarbrücken will be a paradise for you (especially around christmas with the typical German christmas markets). If you don't, there is really no reason to go there! No beautiful architecture at all (only square concrete buildings with a lot of neon lights), which makes you run away from there immediately! the little church on top of the hill looks nice, but you can find that kind of churches in nicer places in Germany too..

Tip: We fled to Metz, in France! :)

- Opera Theater - varied repertoire, fantastic singers, sometimes wacky costumes, always an enjoyable show! (the theater building itself was commissioned to be built by Hitler)
- Christmas Market, walking street, good shopping,
- Transport: has a train station, airport, and buses.
- Downside: Located in a heavily industrial area, some of which nearby resembles Mordor.
