| The town Dessau-Roßlau and the surrounding area is a wonderful destination for lovers of culture and nature. Between Dessau-Roßlau and the city of Wittenberg visitors will find four UNESCO world heritage sites that are so close to another which is unique in Germany. The Bauhaus the Masters’ Houses and the Garden Realm Dessau-Wörlitz belong to UNESCO world heritage as well as the sites of Martin Luther in Wittenberg. The whole landscape – dominated by meadows and forests on the Rivers Elbe and Mulde was put under protection as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve “Mittelelbe”.Whereas Dessau became famous as the Bauhaus-city, Roßlau was regarded as a shiptown. The water castle of the 12th century and buildings in the classical style by the architect Bandauer belong to the most important monuments in Roßlau. The history of Dessau is connected with many great personalities. Kurt Weill, Wilhelm Müller and Moses Mendelssohn were born here. The Technical Museum reminds of the work of the famous aviation engineer Hugo Junkers.
