Dresden is the largest city in what used to be East Germany.  It is located along the banks of the river Elbe, and was severely damaged during World War II.

Dresden is today a great place to get a feel for German history.  You can see buildings that were bombed in World War II, as well as those from the communist regime and modern buildings.   The Zwinger is a German palace complex that was destroyed in 1945, but rebuilt after, and now contains a number of excellent museums.  The Frauenkirche was finally rebuilt in 2005 as well.

Dresden may not have the most interesting LGBT night life in Germany, but there are still places you could go. The most beloved bars are Boys on Alaunstrasse and Queens on Goerlitzer strasse. There are no gay clubs/discos in town, but once a month two bigger events take place. The firtst is Think Pink, in the Industrial area, which is popular for clubbing events in the city. Think Pink is quite expensive, but frequented. The other one is Disco Wo Anders  in Baerenzwinger, on the Old City side of Dresden. It is a student party, so the public is mainly younger nad it is very cheap, since it was made for a tight student budget. Nevertheless, the music is very nice 80s/90s/charts and the public is mixed.
There is a CSD/Pride Parade every first weekend of June in Dresden too.

Now I cant say that I enjoyed
Dresden. Although its interesting for historical reasons. Their are a few old buildings to look at, but most of the city was destroyed during the war.

As a matter of fact, the city is quite depressing, due to all the communist past only 18 years ago. And if you are looking for nightlife or anything fun to do, you are in the wrong place.

I still do recommend to visit the city though, but make sure you only plan a day trip to the city. You will be glad to leave in the evening.
