Dresden, Saxony Region, Germany Don't miss the night panorama of this amazing architecture ensemble in the city: When you travel in the summer, take a blanket, a bottle of wine, some friends ore new people you met and enjoy the evening on the meadows of the river Elbe - on the northern side of the river, there you'll have the best view. (0) Leipzig, Saxony Region, Germany Good local specialities at the Thüringer Hof restaurant. Don't miss the St. Thomaskirche for its beauty and musical heritage. http://www.thomaskirche.org/neu/eng/introduction/introduction.htm Good tip? (0) Dresden, Saxony Region, Germany Dresden may not have the most interesting LGBT night life in Germany, but there are still places you could go. The most beloved bars are Boys on Alaunstrasse and Queens on Goerlitzer strasse. There are no gay clubs/discos in town, but once a month two bigger events take place. The firtst is Think Pink, in the Industrial area, which is popular for clubbing events in the city. Think Pink is quite expensive, but frequented. The other one is Disco Wo Anders in Baerenzwinger, on the Old City side of Dresden. It is a student party, so the public is mainly younger nad it is very cheap, since it was made for a tight student budget. Nevertheless, the music is very nice 80s/90s/charts and the public is mixed. There is a CSD/Pride Parade every first weekend of June in Dresden too. Good tip? (0) Moritzburg, Saxony Region, Germany You can take a boatride on the lake surrounding the palace - great fishing and photo-ops. Good tip? (0) Pillnitz, Saxony Region, Germany You can take a nice boatride along the river Elba from Pirna to Pillnitz and enjoy the magnificent scenery. After visiting the mock-Chinese Palace, you can go to great hikes and climb rocks in the neighbouring woods. Good tip? (0) Radebeul, Saxony Region, Germany Radebeul has become famous in Germany mainly because of Karl May. He was a very successful author and his stories about the Indian Winnetou and his blood brother Old Shatterhand are legendary in Germany. They were also made into films in the 1960s with Pierre Brice and Lex Barker. If you are interested in more than just Indians and Cowboys, you won't be disappointed: in recent history Radebeul has gained its reputation in viticulture. It's close to Dresden, that combines history with the buzz of a modern city, as well as Saxon Switzerland, which is perfect for days out hiking, climbing, cycling and much more. Good tip? (0) Gorlitz, Saxony Region, Germany Oh, here we go, my home town. Görlitz is a gorgeous town and definitely worth a visit! (and I'm not just saying that because I was born there) First of all, it's got a German and a Polish (called Zgorzelec) part separated by the river Neiße. It's got a beautiful old town built in the 15th/16th century with a fascinating history and lots of cosy restaurants and bars - try St Jonathan for food Via Regia or Schwarze Kunst for drinks. Most of the town was built till the 1920s and you'll find some great examples of the art nuveau (in German: Jugendstil). Some sites that may interest you are: Church St Peter, Untermarkt, Obermarkt, Flüsterbogen, Kaisertrutz, Frauenkirche, Kaufhaus am Demianiplatz, Heiliges Grab. Its location is perfect for day trips to Dresden (1hr drive), Prague (2hrs drive) or Berlin (2.5hrs drive) as well as to discover the variety of nature at the lake Berzdorf (a now cultivated and flooded former site for brown coal mining) and the Zittauer Gebirge (mountains perfect for walks, hiking and cycling in summer and skiing in winter). Its local brewery is called Landskron - in case you thought it's too small to brew its own beer. I really hope you'll find this info helpful, because it's definitely worth a visit!!! At least it's proven to become a popular film site: parts of "Around the world in 80 days" were filmed there (when the hot air balloon flies over Paris while Jackie Chan is hanging on the rope) as well as parts of "The reader" with Kate Winslet.
