Travel Tips for Dos and Don’ts in Schleswig-Holstein Region

Lubeck, Schleswig-Holstein Region, Germany
This is a city associated with the author Thomas Mann - visit his and his brother's place called Buddenbrooks here, now a sort of museum, where you see manuscripts and other paraphernalia linked to him...and perhaps pick up a bottle or so of local wine too...otherwise a lovely little city too with the typical charm of small northern German cities like Bremen...stroll around on its streets admiring the surrounds and taking in the clean crisp air...

Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein Region, Germany
Berlin is simply CUTE. Places you have to go: Pergamon Museum- it's quite incredible, then I really recommend sailing the Spandau River. You have to see the Zoo Station, and try chocolate muffins from India Bar (I'm not sure what's their secret, but they are really gooood:), then visit Alexanderplatz with TV Tower- unless you don't womit while eating and moving around- try some specials from local restaurant and enjoy the view. You have to see Hauptbahnhoff and try local S-Bahns and U-bahn. There are several places you may enjoy, like Tiergarten Park or East Part in which you will feel the spirit of socialism. Some 'remains' of Berlin's Great Wall are still for sale. What I really recommend is just hanging around and going everywhere you want to go- but it's better to discover this creamy and tasty city with someone who can guide you- there's always more fun together;-)

An interesting church on a small site surrounded by trees. Lots of places to take a dip in the surrounding lakes when the weather is good. A great range of supermarkets and local shops.

Wedel, Schleswig-Holstein Region, Germany
Although not a part of the city of Hamburg Wedel is a de facto suburb of the city.
Wedel has a Subway station connecting it to Hamburg's rapid transit system.
The thing Wedel is most known for is the "Willkomm Höft". As ships pass Wedel on the river Elbe on their way in and out of the port of Hamburg each ship is greeted over a big loudspeaker system and the national anthem of the ships home land is played. It's worth visiting and I know of no other institution like this.
The high speed ferry connecting Hamburg and the island of Helgoland stops in Wedel just at the Willkomm Höft.
The Willkomm höft is also a good starting point for a walk or bicycle ride along the river into Hamburg. You will pass the pompus suburb of Blankenese, have a chance to look across the river and see the airbus factory and probalby meet loads of people if the weather is nice. Musicians and vendors selling Crepes or ice cream are around as well. The ways are mostly for pedestrians and bicycles only.
As the subway line S1 runs roughly along the river as well there is always the option of takeing the train back to the place you stay at should your feet get tired.
