Ghana

An English-speaking country with a developed tourism infrastructure, Ghana is deservedly popular as an introduction to West Africa. The capital city of Accra is one of the largest cities in Africa, and contains sights such as The National Museum of Ghana, which has a large collection of Ghanaian and African art and artifacts. Castles are not something that are immediately associated with African countries, but there are 29 still standing European forts and castles in Ghana that were built between 1482 and 1756. These were built to protect trading interests in ivory, gold, slaves and are a reminder of a darker past. Visit Kumasi for a number of excellent museums and the palace of the Asante king, where you may be able to shake hands with the king himself. For nature lovers, there are opportunities to see elephants and take a walk through the rainforest canopy via an aerial walkway in Kakum National Park. For even more adventure, go to Mole National Park and watch the lions or do a walking safari to get up close and personal with the elephants (but not too close!).

Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Be prepared to find one of the nicest people in this world!, people here is really kind and the food and transportation quite cheap.
Paga, Northern Ghana, Ghana
The one reason to pass this small town is the crocodile pound they have there. For the price of a chicken, you can snap some pictures holding the tale of a real crocodile... While you are there try to visit the museum opposite the crocodile pound, which presents the houses in which people in Northern Ghana used to live
Kintampo, Ghana
The most famous waterfalls of Ghana are here, and definately worth a visit.
Cape Coast, Central Ghana, Ghana
Be sure to visit the Cape Coast Castle. Built by the Portugal in 1600's.
Tafi Atome, Ghana
The Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary is the main attraction. Feed the Monkeys food out of your hand, don't tease them or the monkeys will come after you.
Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Stay away from touristy places like Osu. Veer towards the places that seem more crowded and like there aren't so many tourists and more locals. There are the places where you will find the true locals and the people who are willing to help you find your way just because they are kind. However, in places like central Accra, be very very aware of pickpockets and people selling things on the streets illegally. You can get in trouble for this!
Elmina, Ghana
When you go to Elmina definitely check out the fish harbor market. But keep you camera away or at least hidden because the locals don't like you taking pictures there. It makes sense though. You wouldn't want your daily life to be viewed as an attraction either.
Larabanga, Ghana
just find the rock the road cannot cross
Kumasi, Central Ghana, Ghana
I'm not sure if it still exists today but since it was so popular among the Kumasi tourist crowd I doubt it's gone:Vic Baboo's cafeDamn fine veggie pizza and milkshakes.Other food tips:"Ice watha" means water from the tap, only chilled"Pu watha" is purified water in sealed bagsOf course the water from the tap is cheapest but if you just started your travels begin with purified. Just to get your bowels used to the local "fauna and flora". The same with the street food: it's great, cheap and quick but ease into it!
Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
didn't really like the place, way to much traffichead down to one of the smaller places by the sea as fast as you can, like Tema
Busua, Ghana
Busua... I wish I was there right now...My favorite place in Ghana. They broke into our room though (can't remember the name of the hotel, it was something very cheap), in the middle of the night, lucky I'm a light sleeper and was able to scare the burglar away. So, even in paradise, keep your wits at hand, don't get sloppy, or it will spoil the experience.
Gambaga, Northern Ghana, Ghana
there is a witch camp in that lost town... u can try to visit it, if u want to see one of the aspect of african reality, do it without your tourist eyes...
Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana, Ghana
you should walk across the mountains in bolga, take some of the children, and enjoy the town of rocks !
Busua, Ghana
Well.. Busua beach is the most beautifull place I've ever seen. Just try to search for it on Flicr.
Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Travelling Ghana as a woman is quite safe. Be careful in Accra, it's a big city where the locals are used to interact with tourists. They will try to sell you things, ask you for money,...

Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana, Ghana
Kenya, Ghana
Do not drink any liquid that does not come from a sealed bottle and try to avoid any food that has not been cooked. Resturants wash their food in the local water, if it hasn`t been brought to a boiling temperture there is a big risk of it giving you food posioning.
Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Clubs are crazy in Accra need to check "@ the office" crazy club...
Kumasi, Central Ghana, Ghana
In general Kumasi is a very safe and accessible city for travellers. It has Bureau de Change everywhere as well as a security guarded Barclays ATM for accessing money. Internet cafes are easy to find as well. Must sees are the Central Market- an amazing expanse of tinned rooves, get lost in the labrynth of meat, shoes, cloth and spices- you will love it. Also, the Cultural Museum and the Asantehene's Palace. I don't recommend the Zoo- it is overpriced and under cared for. It was depressing if anything. Try the amazing street food- the koko(maize meal drink) and roasted plantain at the Trotro station especially, the food at Lonely Planet recommended restaurants is overpriced and made me feel elitist and excluded. If you are missing your dairy products, which it is likely you will if you are a Westerner then Vic Baboo's Cafe is good for fruit smoothies that you can trust. Women, expect to be grabbed ta when winding your way through the pressing crowds on the street, don't take it as a threat. Keep your money mimimal and close by you at the Trotro station. Alway always greet someone on the street before asking for directions. Give to beggars, the locals do. Take a trotro when t you can, the prices are set and they are way more fun. Shared taxis are also reasonable. If you take a private taxi be prepared for a haggle- keep it lighthearted. Kumasi isn't as bad as Accra for this though. When I was there, there were incidents of taxi drivers stealing bags/purses etc., but just be alert, most are just trying it on.
Aburi, Ghana
If you go to the wood carving shacks on the side of the roads, if you buy in bulk or promise to return(and keep you word) you can work the price way down.
Kokrobite, Ghana
Get to the beach this is one of the best beaches in or around Accra, barely any trash in the water, clean beaches, and no hawkers trying to sell you stuff, you can't bring food or drink over, but they don't check you backpacks. If your into surfing, or body boarding, etc. this is a great spot.
Koforidua, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
You have to make it to Buti falls, here, its a double water fall in a beautiful 'park' Easily one of the best waterfalls i have ever seen

Elmina, Ghana
Don't dress up, don't drive there yourself (but use public transportation = a tro tro), and don't stay at a luxurious hotel. Go shoe string on this one.
Ho, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
If you are here for a couple of days, make your way to the volta waterfall, biggest water fall i have ever been able to swim in, and has lots of traditional food being sold around the area, but make sure to arrange with a taxi driver to wait for you while you take the walk. DO NOT PAY UNTIL you arrive at home or else you will lose your money
Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana

Wow!  At the market (you'll know the one) bring cedes to barter all goods locals will sell as you browse and shop.Is not lie Cote d'Ivoire, where they will crowd you for favors.  More of a British-style way of doing things/English speaking nation here.  Extremely great bargains to be found, but DO NOT SETTLE FOR THE FIRST PRICE GIVEN OR LISTED!  Make a deal, don't be suckered.Keep your fanny pack in the front, and don't show all your money at any one time.  A really good time can turn into a very tragic time in a couple of seconds. As with anywhere where you are unfamiliar, bring your own toilet paper.

Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Hey, If you are in Accra, make sure to buy some fabrics from the street vendors. It is the best linen that money can buy, and it is very durable and long lasting. The prices are pretty cheap, and most sellers give you a great deal becase they want your business. The best way to get a good deal is to buy a small amount of a lot of different fabrics from the same person. That way you get a variety, and the person is more likley to give you a discount or better deal.
