Travel Tips for Dos and Don’ts in Ghana

Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Stay away from touristy places like Osu. Veer towards the places that seem more crowded and like there aren't so many tourists and more locals. There are the places where you will find the true locals and the people who are willing to help you find your way just because they are kind. However, in places like central Accra, be very very aware of pickpockets and people selling things on the streets illegally. You can get in trouble for this!

Elmina, Ghana
When you go to Elmina definitely check out the fish harbor market. But keep you camera away or at least hidden because the locals don't like you taking pictures there. It makes sense though. You wouldn't want your daily life to be viewed as an attraction either.

Kumasi, Central Ghana, Ghana
I'm not sure if it still exists today but since it was so popular among the Kumasi tourist crowd I doubt it's gone:
Vic Baboo's cafe

Damn fine veggie pizza and milkshakes.
Other food tips:
"Ice watha" means water from the tap, only chilled "Pu watha" is purified water in sealed bags
Of course the water from the tap is cheapest but if you just started your travels begin with purified. Just to get your bowels used to the local "fauna and flora".
The same with the street food: it's great, cheap and quick but ease into it!

Accra, Eastern Ghana, Ghana
Travelling Ghana as a woman is quite safe. Be careful in Accra, it's a big city where the locals are used to interact with tourists. They will try to sell you things, ask you for money,...

Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana, Ghana
