Gibraltar What to Expect

Dont leave open bags of food unwatched/ at little children's hands. The monkeys are really rude the can and will take that food. Dont buy expansive things there because they cost more then their average price. However, if you feel like actually buying something there, then know that you can bargain the price down anytime.

Gibraltar is a British colony between Spain and Africa where people go to get duty free jewelry, alcohol and for the nightlife. There is the most amazing cave, where they hosted a concert for the Queen, that has evidence of the first human habitation on the European continent... do the tour! Ladies watch out for the Spanish guys, they don't have much respect for English speaking women... they think maybe you are one of the many randy English female tourists who chase everything in pants and return to Britain as born again virgins, so they will treat you as such until they get to know you. Spanish women are treated with much more courtesy and respect, so they do know how to behave. This area has a massive amount of drug trade between Spain and Africa... plenty of needles wash up on the beach every day, so wear shoes and I suggest not to go into La Linea (on a beach horse-ride I was told they may shoot if we got too close).

There's only one hotel in the whole "city", and it has 4 or 5 stars - so you'd better just sleep somewhere else and visit Gibraltar for one day.

When in Gibraltar you HAVE to go UP to the rock and into it to see all the beauty. Outside there are monkeys though so watch out! The less good (for me) is that they have pound (and Euro) and its more expensive than Spain in my opinion. Fun fact: Gibraltar has pound and belongs to Great Britain. But the gibraltarians can NOT pay with their money in Great Britain. However this is not a problem for those who live in Great Britain and goes to Gibraltar. Their money wors just fine!

Head up the "rock" early in the day, as you can then take your time with the apes, looking at all the war bunkers, and basically walking down. And make sure you bring a bottle of water and comfortable shoes.

gibaltar was a lot of fun. we caught it in between intense travel days so i mostly remember enjoying the square and relaxing with a bulmers. there was plenty of music in the square. enjoy the ocean breeze, fresh sea food and beachy atmosphere. a word of advice though: be very careful about the payala you eat. of friend of mine had some and missed out completely on gilbaltar and instead spent the entire day puking. one really neat thing to do is go up the rock in a bouncy jeep to see the monkeys. i got to feed one. they really are quite cute. but just be careful. they are wild animals even if all evidence is to the contrary. another mate of mine got bit, through a blue jean jacket and had to get several nasty shots and was sick for at least a week after. i guess my over all theme for this tip is take care when traveling, nothing ruins a trip more than getting sick.
