Athens & Attica People & Culture
Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece If u heard and love old world culture,Athens is right place to start checking your knowladge or at least learn about it! Wonderful historic place, with wonderful people! See ya soon! Good tip? (+1) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece The best trip ever! A lot of alcohol, good party's, crazy people... Good tip? (+1) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Acropolis was quite the sight in Athens... lots of renovations beeing done up there, but we got a great view of the city. Also went up to Lykavittos Hill to dine at the restaurant up there and get a night view of the City and Acropolis. Old Plaka is full of tourists but interessting for people watching. The Olympic park was great to visit, clean air and very bright...I simply loved it there. I have to admit Athens is on the bottom of my list of favorite cities. Not to friendly people, very dirty and for all the corruption of the taxi drivers. my oh my. Ended up taking trains or walk everywhere. Train staions and walking in the streets after dark are not for any women alone. The food was enjoyable but would taste great if the service would be a little more friendly. Been there done that. Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Mykonos many other islands to visit, many activities, sports, barsclubs, friendly local people, lots of sightseing, incredible beaches Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece If you're the type to party your ass off, I recommend to keep dancing in clubs (in Psyrri preferably) untill 6 or so, and then walk your way up the Philopappos hill. It's the best place to sleep off your hangover in the sun, surrounded by trees, marble steps and a lot less tourists/people then any other place in a 5 km radius. Find yourself a tree for some shade if you're the Burned-in-5secs-type though, the summersun in Athens is hot enough to bake traditional Italian Pizza's. Keep this up for a few days and you can spend all those hard earned coins on beer, instead of beds. If you just HAVE to have a bed and a shower, I recommend Hotel Lozanni; cheap place great people (especially when I'm working there). Good tip? Wonderful historic place, with wonderful people! See ya soon! Good tip? (+1) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Ancient Greece have a very special place in my heart and you can feel the history when you visit Acropolis!! Unfortunately you can't get really close to the temples...but when it is to preserve the temples it is worth it!
History is very important but remember to walk down to the plaka area were you can get the feeling of the greek culture as it is now...There are shops, restaurants and of course tourist but it is all good! Good tip? (+1) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Athens (pronounced /ˈæθn̩z/; Αθήνα, Athina [aˈθina]), the capital and largest city in Greece, dominates the Attica periphery: as one of the world's oldest cities, its recorded history spans at least 3,000 years. The Greek capital has a population of 745,514 (in 2001) within its administrative limits and a land area of 39 km² (15 sq mi). The urban area of Athens extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of 3.37 million (in 2005). The metro area of Athens spans 412 km² (159 sq mi) and encompasses a population of 3.192.606. The Athens Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) is the 8th most populated LUZ in the European Union with an estimated population of 3.89 million (in 2001). A bustling and cosmopolitan metropolis, Athens is central to economic, financial, industrial, political and cultural life in Greece. It is rapidly becoming a leading business centre in the European Union. Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. A center for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Plato's Akademia and Aristotle's Lyceum, Athens was also the birthplace of Socrates, Pericles, Sophocles, and its many other prominent philosophers, writers and politicians of the ancient world. It is widely referred to as the cradle of European civilisation and the birthplace of democracy, largely due to the impact of its cultural and political achievements during the 5th and 4th centuries BC on the rest of the then known European continent. The heritage of the classical era is still evident in the city, represented by a number of ancient monuments and works of art, the most famous of all the Parthenon on the Acropolis, widely considered an important landmark of early Western civilization. The city also retains a vast variety of Roman and Byzantine monuments, as well as a small number of remaining Ottoman monuments projecting the city's long history across the centuries. Landmarks of the modern era are also present, dating back to 1830 (the establishment of the independent Greek state), and taking in the Greek Parliament (19th century) and the Athens Trilogy (Library, University, and Academy). Athens was the host city of the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896, and 108 years later it welcomed home the 2004 Summer Olympics, with great success. Good tip? (0) Athina, Athens & Attica, Greece Big city...hotels,shops,Acropolis, and all greek gods and culture is all over. Cool place for amazing weekend... Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Athens was the home of art, culture, science, civilization, democracy and Philosophy .. You need to spend many days for sightseeing here! Good tip? (0) Ydra, Athens & Attica, Greece Very very very nice little Island near Athens! Go there if you want some relaxation and sun. Beautiful blue water and at night there are some little bars wich are playing music and will serve you one of the coldest beers you ever need :-) Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Greece is really beautiful, breath taking country... and of course the capital -Athens. In Athens are a lots of monuments (the biggest and the best - Akropolis) , activities (bars, clubs, tavernas) and etc. In restaurants - it's quite expensive, but in shops - normal (for example: juice (1.5 L - 1.05 EUR), bier (small - 0.60 EUR), water about 1 EUR and etc). Yuo schoud go to "Mpouzouki" (it's a traditional place, evening with greek dances, traditional music, food - very nice). Alkohol - one of the best is raki, also rakoumela (raki vodka+hot honey). The people are very friendly and helpfull, so don't be afraid - just ask about what yuo want! The best weather is on September (not too hot). Very good Trainservice and quite cheap (Athens - Thessaloniki - 15 EUR). Good tip? (0) Athens & Attica, Greece Some people think that Athens is only good for partying in the summer. They are wrong. Greeks still take the time to go out in the Fall and Winter because some of the best winter clubs open up! If you're interested in going to a neighborhood of bars and small clubs all clustered in one plaza, go to Gazi. They have a variety of music - from Eurodance, House, and American Hiphop to Oldies and Classic Rock. They stay open until 5 AM. After that you can go and grab a bite to eat at a kiosk, or one of the small cafes nearby. For the big chic clubs (and expensive), go to Glyfada. There is DC, W, and Villa Mercedes - all recommended. They play a mix of Hip Hop, Dance, and Greek with a festival of lights and dancers. They stay open Fridays and Saturdays until 7 AM. Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Athens was a real treat. We were there when the plaka was being torn up to make it better for the Olympics. The shop owners were ready to deal for sales of gold jewellery. Just be careful when asking for a good place to eat. you may end up at someones brother's place paying an arm and a leg for fish you didn't order:) Aside from that and even that was just an adventure, Athens has so much to offer. It's true that the Parthenon grounds are slippery. There are cats everywhere and some are friendly. Don't be alarmed, they are very skinny. Good tip? (0) Peiraiefs, Athens & Attica, Greece dont go here if you dont like fish smells Good tip? (0) Spetsai, Athens & Attica, Greece have half a day time? go rent a bike in Spetses harbor city, and drive west.. all the way around the island, you go only slightly up and down. after about 3 hours, when you're almost back, just before entering the city, you will be stunded how bad the islanders threat there own beautifull nature and landscape. but the trip is overal very nice indeed Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Mykonos many other islands to visit, many activities, sports, barsclubs, friendly local people, lots of sightseing, incredible beaches Good tip? (0) Nisos Kythira, Athens & Attica, Greece Fabulous beaches the perfect fish soup (traditional name of it "kakavia") Easygoing people...poor nightlife ;) Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece If you head to Athens in the top of their summer, the city is a lot less crowded with large amounts on Atheneans leaving the city to spend time in the country. The parthenon is VERY slippery as the stones have been polished by the feet of millions of visitors over the centuries. The train system is incredible and goes all the way out to the airport. It is worth waiting for a train when you first get in as it will take you right into the city (or even to the plaka). Don't get caught out by the taxi drivers who are know to charge up to 200 Euro depending on how lost you look. Good tip? (+3) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Capital of Greece, beautiful city with great places by the sea! Take it easy, walk arround and catch a boat to the nearby islands! Good tip?
