Best Time to Visit Athens & Attica
Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece
Never hesitate to ask a greek for info...most of them speak at least basic english Use the metro as your primary transportation as it is the only way to know where you will end up and when...Athens can have serious traffic jams! Walking is only suggested at the center of the city.
The best sightseeing walk in Athens is; Syntagma, take Ermou street all the way to Thisseion then Apostolou Pavlou untill Acropolis and then Dionisiou Aeropagitou till it's end where the metro station Acropolis is. It can even better be done the otherway...Definately stop at Thisseion for a coffee with a view of the Parthenon, best time at sundown...

The best nightlife lasting till the next morning! Don't forget to have something to eat while enjoying the sunrise! The locals are very friendly, they always try to help and generally tha all speak english. You will visit the Acropolis, Plaka neighbourhood and tha National Museum, but don't forget the modern side of life. Athens is a human city where you enjoy living. The best season to visit Athens is during spring when the temperatures are not very high and Christmas time when everything is decorated and the city looks very beautiful. Tasty food is easy to find and it is safe to eat almost everywhere. Athens is not very green but we are making an effort to improve our environment. You should also visit the suburbs either by the sea, or towards the mountains. Tha climate is generally cool or cold in winter (it doesn't rain very often but in February or in March it snows), dry and hot in the summer. Spring and automn are cool with some rainy days. It's easy to exchange money (if you don't have euros) in any bank, that you can find in any corner or at the exchange offices. Transportation is good, you can use the metro, buses, the tramway which will take you everywhere. You can also shop a lot. Greek fashion and clothes are elegant and chic and people are generally well dressed. I'm afraid, though, that Athens is an expensive city, you can enjoy everything but you have to pay some things more than they worth. , General Impressions, What to Bring, Sightseeing Attractions, Nightlife

Tip for shopping in Plaka: Haggle on everything. It is expected and the goods are priced accordingly. As a rule of thumb items are marked at 3 times their market value. That way the buyer can haggle the price down to half, walk away feeling like a master bargainer, and the seller still makes a healthy profit. Best strategy is to take a local to do the talking, start out offering a sixth of the marked price, and don't go higher that a third. Don't worry, you won't really bankrupt them or starve their children.

Some people think that Athens is only good for partying in the summer. They are wrong. Greeks still take the time to go out in the Fall and Winter because some of the best winter clubs open up! If you're interested in going to a neighborhood of bars and small clubs all clustered in one plaza, go to Gazi. They have a variety of music - from Eurodance, House, and American Hiphop to Oldies and Classic Rock. They stay open until 5 AM. After that you can go and grab a bite to eat at a kiosk, or one of the small cafes nearby. For the big chic clubs (and expensive), go to Glyfada. There is DC, W, and Villa Mercedes - all recommended. They play a mix of Hip Hop, Dance, and Greek with a festival of lights and dancers. They stay open Fridays and Saturdays until 7 AM.

Costs in Athens & Attica
Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece
If you head to Athens in the top of their summer, the city is a lot less crowded with large amounts on Atheneans leaving the city to spend time in the country.

The parthenon is VERY slippery as the stones have been polished by the feet of millions of visitors over the centuries.

The train system is incredible and goes all the way out to the airport. It is worth waiting for a train when you first get in as it will take you right into the city (or even to the plaka). Don't get caught out by the taxi drivers who are know to charge up to 200 Euro depending on how lost you look.

Ancient Greece have a very special place in my heart and you can feel the history when you visit Acropolis!! Unfortunately you can't get really close to the temples...but when it is to preserve the temples it is worth it! History is very important but remember to walk down to the plaka area were you can get the feeling of the greek culture as it is now...There are shops, restaurants and of course tourist but it is all good!
