Travel Tips from people who've been to Volos
Volos combines sea and mountain (Pelion).
It is a small city (includint the ouskirts)
of appromaxitely 80.000 citizens.
Therefore it is to walk to your destination.
Although there is no traffic and the bus
tickets are really low-priced.
By car someone can easily access great
and clean beaches, which front the Aegean.
In Pelion are located lots of traditional
villages.
There is a wide street in Volos, where no cars are
allowed. There are only cafetterias for all favours
and enough space for pedestrians and for small
children to walk and play. This street faces only
the sea.
In Pelion, are also paths through the forest
for people who are in favour of nature!!!

Volos is a great place to base yourself to explore the Pelion region.  You can get to the beautiful villages of Makrynista (highly recommended for its views, and traditional beauty & quaintness) and Portaria(15-20 min walk down from Makrynitsa).   The Volos waterfront is wonderful at night and great for a stroll.  You can also catch a 2h  ferry to the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos from Volos or take a 3h drive/bus to see the Meteora monastries.  I recommend renting a scooter so you can see all the little Pelion villages.

Volos has the most impressive Tourist Information Centre of all I've seen. the question is: why? is there any need? generally: no, but all the infromation is confirmed, reliable and always up-to-date. and you don't have to wander through the city to gather information (which is rather normal in Greece). 10/10
