Wonderful place to celebrate Greek Easter. Best time to visit would be May and September. Perfect place for people who like something picturesque - the houses are SOooo colourful- but who also like the quieter islands. Not many activities here, just tranquility and local colour. Good tip? (0) Paros, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece One of Greece's most beautiful island.Worth visiting. Good tip? (0) Naxos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece Naxos is a decent size island in the Agean Sea. It will take you a few hours to get there from the port in Athens. If it is off season there is no nead to book a hotel ahead of time. There will be representatives from the hotels on the island at the port and are competative with prices. To get around on the island, hook up with one of the scooter rental agents. There is one as soon as you get off the boat and it is the cheapest and one of the best ways to see the island. There is only one place to go in the off season for nightlife and is located just up the street from where the boat lets you off. There are plenty of resturaunts but do not expect them to have what is on the menu. There were several places that had very little due to off season. Check out the monastaries and burial grounds on the island. Your scooter dealer will point you in the right direction Good tip? (-1) Kea, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece "The island of Kea is tiny. A tiny port, a tiny town. The late afternoon sun bathed us in a golden glow. The mayor of Kea left his Volvo idling to greet us... he is also the island's only taxi driver. His beeper would go off during a meeting so he'd hop in his taxi. But today he left his official duties to welcome us! It would do wonders for our political system if our mayors and senators had to be taxi drivers on the side." "In Chora, we had some time to kill as Vasso finished cooking. So we hiked up to the Lion of Kea. It's a huge petrified lion statue from 6 BC. No one knows how it got there, but it is wonderous... and smiling! The only statue of a smiling lion, anywhere. Perhaps because Kea is so close to paradise, it is impossible for even the king of beasts to keep from cracking a grin." ....Written in June 1996 when I visited.. wow, that was a long time ago! Check out a photo I took of the port of Kea as we approached . Good tip? (0) Oia, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece It is said that Oia has the nicest sunset in the whole Mediterranean. That means that if you get there between 7 and 8 PM you'll get to see hundreds of people with giant cameras trying to make photos, and all the time they are unaware that for some photographers they are even more interesting. As a phenomenon at least. A wonderful picturesque little town, built in the traditional Cycladic style, every little bit as beautiful as the travel guides say. The only thing is that it's more expensive than any other town on Santorini. Or as some of the guides would say: "You pay for the sunset." They have really nice bakeries with excilent cakes, but be especially careful of sitting down in one, because if you take a cake to go it will cost you some 2,5 € and if you sit down on the terrace and eat it it will cost at least 5,5€. Also all the souvenirs cost at least 30% more than in Thira, or even 50% more compared to Kamari. Good tip? (0) Thira, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece pasxa stin santorini!!!!!!!
tin megali paraskevi na pate oposdipote sto xorio pyrgos...exoun ethimo na stolizoun to xorio olo me anammena fanarakia! einai fantastika! Good tip? (0) Mykonos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece On the beach as you get to the shops you will find Pedro, the pelican. He is real and he is alive. If you bother him too much he will attempt to peck at you. The men sit at sunset on blue benches and talk amongst themselves as tourists litter by. there are lots of cats if you like them and lots of tourists. Good tip? (+1) Kos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece lovely memories of a holiday at 14 year old... stay off the Ozo (local pernod like drink, that is extreamly alcholic - but tasted so nice at the time) Good tip? (+1) Mykonos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece Mykonos is so lovely. You will fall in love with this town. It's so nice and white and unique. The gyros are to die for, and the Greeks are utmost friendly. The environment is clean and you feel like you really are on vacation! Good tip?
