Travel Tips from people who've been to Igoumenitsa
in 1993 I went on my first trip alone with a friend and we decided to take the train to Bulgaria. Our parents dropped us off in Antwerp and from there we ended up in Brindisi, Italy a few days later. We were heading towards Sofia, where we were meeting a girl we met in Ghent, she studied with us, but went back to Bulgaria for the summer. In Brindisi we could take the boat to Greece, but we had to choose if we would go to Igoumenitsa or to Athens. Athens was too far so we bought two tickets to Igoumenitsa. But little did we know that there was no railway track in Igoumenitsa and the next station was 300 miles further... (in those days I did not buy Lonely planet guides yet) Luckily for us two guys from the newly founded Czech Republic gave us a ride in their already full car. We got out in Larissa and from there we continued our trip to Sofia!
