About Greece Planning a Trip to Greece
Chania, Crete Island, Greece Anything I say about Chania is not enough. The city is the most beautiful in Crete. You have to visit. During summer is crouded but it is the best time of the year to visit. Do not forget to go to Venizelos' graves and admire the view of the city. Good tip? (0) Mykonos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece wat can i say for this island it's ......The BEST!
the island in summer time is FULL!!!!i mean it.
come and you will see :) Good tip? (0) Ios, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece Go in july, that's the best time for Ios, but if you decide to go to Greece later, then Mykonos is probably better! Good tip? (0) Symi, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece Good place to stay..clean with lovely view of Symi village is the ODYSSIA Apartments- www.symi-odyssia.gr
Wonderful place to celebrate Greek Easter. Best time to visit would be May and September. Perfect place for people who like something picturesque - the houses are SOooo colourful- but who also like the quieter islands. Not many activities here, just tranquility and local colour. Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Never hesitate to ask a greek for info...most of them speak at least basic english Use the metro as your primary transportation as it is the only way to know where you will end up and when...Athens can have serious traffic jams! Walking is only suggested at the center of the city. The best sightseeing walk in Athens is; Syntagma, take Ermou street all the way to Thisseion then Apostolou Pavlou untill Acropolis and then Dionisiou Aeropagitou till it's end where the metro station Acropolis is. It can even better be done the otherway...Definately stop at Thisseion for a coffee with a view of the Parthenon, best time at sundown... Good tip?
Good tip? (0) Kea, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece "The island of Kea is tiny. A tiny port, a tiny town. The late afternoon sun bathed us in a golden glow. The mayor of Kea left his Volvo idling to greet us... he is also the island's only taxi driver. His beeper would go off during a meeting so he'd hop in his taxi. But today he left his official duties to welcome us! It would do wonders for our political system if our mayors and senators had to be taxi drivers on the side." "In Chora, we had some time to kill as Vasso finished cooking. So we hiked up to the Lion of Kea. It's a huge petrified lion statue from 6 BC. No one knows how it got there, but it is wonderous... and smiling! The only statue of a smiling lion, anywhere. Perhaps because Kea is so close to paradise, it is impossible for even the king of beasts to keep from cracking a grin." ....Written in June 1996 when I visited.. wow, that was a long time ago! Check out a photo I took of the port of Kea as we approached . Good tip? (0) Oia, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece It is said that Oia has the nicest sunset in the whole Mediterranean. That means that if you get there between 7 and 8 PM you'll get to see hundreds of people with giant cameras trying to make photos, and all the time they are unaware that for some photographers they are even more interesting. As a phenomenon at least. A wonderful picturesque little town, built in the traditional Cycladic style, every little bit as beautiful as the travel guides say. The only thing is that it's more expensive than any other town on Santorini. Or as some of the guides would say: "You pay for the sunset." They have really nice bakeries with excilent cakes, but be especially careful of sitting down in one, because if you take a cake to go it will cost you some 2,5 € and if you sit down on the terrace and eat it it will cost at least 5,5€. Also all the souvenirs cost at least 30% more than in Thira, or even 50% more compared to Kamari. Good tip? (0) Thira, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece pasxa stin santorini!!!!!!!
tin megali paraskevi na pate oposdipote sto xorio pyrgos...exoun ethimo na stolizoun to xorio olo me anammena fanarakia! einai fantastika! Good tip? (0) Milatos, Crete Island, Greece Milatos is divided into 2 villages caled: Milatos and Milatos Beach. The first one is a typical greek village located on the hills 1 km from the sea-shore and separated from it with an olive plantation. Recently it became renovated and has 2 or 3 restaurants but i remember the times when usually there was no sales-person in the local shop and customers were able to take whatever they wanted and pay to for it just by leaving money on the desk. It shows how much the inhabitants of Milatos trusted tourists. The second one is, as the name suggests, located by the sea although there is no real beach area except some sand near the harbour. There are 2 supermarkets and plenty of taverns/seafood bars. To sum up, it's a great place if you want to try fresh seafood and run away from loud, touristic resorts. Good tip? (0) Ioannina, Northern Greece, Greece Very interesting city with many beautiful traditions and customs Good tip? (0) Chios, Northern Aegean Islands, Greece Visit Chios Island during Easter time (! Orthodox Easter). In Vrondades village a 'rocket war' takes place. The village is founded on two hills, on top of each one there is a church. The habitats of each hill prepare small, harmless rockets while the whole year. So, that day, they launch them against the 'rival' church. This custom is declarated by many (BBC and CNN included) as one of the most spectacular Easter customs. Prefer a place far from the 'war field', from where it is easier to admire the whole thing. Good tip? (0) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece If you head to Athens in the top of their summer, the city is a lot less crowded with large amounts on Atheneans leaving the city to spend time in the country. The parthenon is VERY slippery as the stones have been polished by the feet of millions of visitors over the centuries. The train system is incredible and goes all the way out to the airport. It is worth waiting for a train when you first get in as it will take you right into the city (or even to the plaka). Don't get caught out by the taxi drivers who are know to charge up to 200 Euro depending on how lost you look. Good tip? (+3) Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece Capital of Greece, beautiful city with great places by the sea! Take it easy, walk arround and catch a boat to the nearby islands! Good tip? (+2) Mykonos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece On the beach as you get to the shops you will find Pedro, the pelican. He is real and he is alive. If you bother him too much he will attempt to peck at you. The men sit at sunset on blue benches and talk amongst themselves as tourists litter by. there are lots of cats if you like them and lots of tourists. Good tip? (+1) Kos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece lovely memories of a holiday at 14 year old... stay off the Ozo (local pernod like drink, that is extreamly alcholic - but tasted so nice at the time) Good tip? (+1) Mykonos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece Mykonos is so lovely. You will fall in love with this town. It's so nice and white and unique. The gyros are to die for, and the Greeks are utmost friendly. The environment is clean and you feel like you really are on vacation! Good tip? (+1) Bradt Travel Guides |
