Zakynthos Travel Guide

The beach of Navagio or Shipwreck or even Zakynthos smugglers cove is the most famous of Zakynthos beaches and one of the most famous of all Greece. It is the trademark of the island and has been photographed millions of times. This superb beach is located in the eastern part of the island, close to the Anafotiria village.
It was initially called Agios Georgios but owes its new name to the shipwreck of a boat that transported illegal cigarettes, in 1983. The deep sea left the remains of the ship on this beach.   With the years passing, the sand completely surrounded the ship which looks now as if it was emerging of it. The vestiges of the ship can be seen in the middle of the large white sandy beach which has amazing turquoise and crystalline waters.
Huge vertical cliffs of white rocks are surrounding the sand creating a unique and enchanting image. To reach this paradise, one has to take a little boat from the small port of Porto Vromi. Those taxi-boats are leaving every hour and the trip is about 30 minutes.

Smuggler bay:
A particularly popular goal is bay with the ship wreck of Zakynthos. It is accessible only from the sea. The wreck of the coastal motor boat „Panagiotis “is appropriate high perpendicularly up-rising up cliffs in a bay, surrounded by up to 200 for meters, over which a small platform is. That is the only lookout point, from which one can see the wreck from the land side. The contraband vessel stranded, when it pursues a machine damage with stormy lake of the coast guard suffered and leaderless with its illegal load of cigarettes in that formerly agio Georgios bay mentioned stranded. The crew of the ship could save itself.

Try the restaurant (greek tavern) at Keri, the one about 200m before Faros, it is great and has a very nice veiw of Mitzithres, two small islands. It also has the biggest flag in the world. Also you can try a restaurant at Xingia which is at the edge of a mountain and has good food and veiw as well as the restaurant at Dafni beach (I reccomend fish..)! Some people like restaurants at St.Marcus Sq. in Zakynthos but i didn't..
