Few travelers make their way to Quetzaltenango when visiting Guatemala, and those that do usually only make a brief stop to see the Trama Textiles. Other destinations such as Panajachel may be more interesting to visit in the area. Know something about Quetzaltenango? Help us out by adding your favorite spots to this Quetzaltenango travel guide.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Quetzaltenango
Xela has some great places to learn Spanish. A friend and I studied for a week at the Juan Sisay Spanish School, it was a great all-round experience: great one-on-one teaching, awesome group activities and alot of fun (and we even learned Spanish!!!). We stayed with a local family which was very neat, and added to the experience. It was very affordable and worth it, and definitly recommended. Good tip? (0) What to see in Quetzaltenango? - the yellow church in San Andres Xecul - the hot springs in Las Fuentes Georginas - hikes to the volcanoe Santa Maria, Laguna de Chicabal and Tajumulco (the higest in Central America, 4250m) - the market in San Francisco Del Alto on Friday Good tip? (0) Schöne Gegend im Hochland Guatemalas. In Quetzaltenango (auch Xela genannt, ausgesprochen "Schela") kann man gut eine Spanischschule besuchen. Ebenso hat es viele Vulkane, die man bewandern kann.
