Located in the bay of St Malo in the English Channel, Guernsey is closer to France than the United Kingdom, but its loyalties lie with to the British Crown. This was where Victor Hugo made his home after being exiled from France. Once part of the French mainland, rising tides cut isolated Guernsey from the rest of the mainland at the end of the Ice Age. Evidence of the Neolithic man abound on the island, including defensive earth works, and burial chambers such as Les Fouillages, possibly one of the oldest manmade structures in Europe. St Peter Port, the capital on the island is a lively port with great choices of pubs and bars, as well as excellent dining options. Low duty free products make it a good shopping destination and the traditional Guernsey jumper is a popular souvenir. The island offers a lot of good guided walks and cycling.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Guernsey
(0) Jersey...a fabulous place to visit when the sun is out!...St.Helier...a harbour location with its tasteful ongoing developement...is becoming rather trendy...If you want stretch out on a flat and sandy beach or participate in some watersports go to St.Brelades...not dissimilar to the small caribbean islands....to round off your day....make your way to St.Aubins Bay...there sitting on the harbour The Boat House beckons...the place ouzes atmosphere...you can relax at the bar...spill outside if you want...have a drink and catch up with friends and sample some of the delightful dishes on offer... Good tip? (0) Beautiful beaches and cliff paths that's what Herm is all about. It's one of the Channel Islands just 1 hour flight from gatwick, or 15 min by boat from Guernsey. Accommodation at White House Hotel, self catering or campsite. Food in Mermaid Tavern and Restaurant, White House Restaurant or from beach cafe. You can buy all equipment You want, at a good price in a large gift shop, so there is no need of taking huge luggage with You. Wonderful for a Day Trip. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Guernsey
