The museum was truely magnificent and I ended up staying on the grounds for an entire day just watching the people comming and going. Amazing how many kinds of people of differet origins and heritages comes here. WOW and more WOW. Must see when your are in Rome.

smallest independent country in the world, very few people can enter its gates, but I can assure you inside is one of the most relaxing environments one can find, very well kept, with a helipad and its own radio station.

If you are not with a tour group, get to the Vatican VERY EARLY. I think they let the public in at 10am but the line is uaully around the block by 8am. Tour groups are let in starting at 8am so it is your best bet to find one to sign up with. If you cannot get with a group, expect to get there very early and to have a long wait. It is worth every minute. No picture can do justice to the art, building, tapestry, atmosphere, history or lawns of this city within a city. Sistene Chapel is strict with talking and picture taking. I wouldnt' risk it. Women need to remember to wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. If you forget, there are plenty of people selling scarves outside to the people in line.

A trip to Rome means a trip to the Vatican City.  The Vatican is a small compact destination with much to do.  I would highly recommend having a look at the tombs underneath St Peter's Basillica.

First, be aware that to enter St Peters Basillica, men must have thier legs covered so no shorts or mid lenght pants. Ladies, it is respectfull to cover your head and shoulders with a scarf. You will notice that when you view the Cistine Chapel that a.) you cannot speak in there. b.) no flash when taking pictures in fact I'm not sure you can even take pics in there. Notice that Michealangelos frescos on the ceiling were not planned out properly. He starts with large robust figures at one end and finds himself cramped for space towards the other end. He did however do an incredible job. The large painting on the wall which i believe depicts pergatory was something that the great painter was apposed to doing. So angry that he painted the face of he who forced him to paint onto one of the charaters dying bodies. After the chaple you will enter the Basillica. There are riches beyond your wildest imagination to see. The floor alone is made up of many beautful marbles and so much symbolism. I believe that there are symbols embedded in the floor that indicate distances of other places from the basillica. You will notice that even though there are huge paintings inside that you are allowed to take flash pictures. Why? Because the originals were removed and replicas were painstakingly created with micro mosaics. I am an artist and didn't figure this out until I read about it after leaving:(
