Utila, Carribean Honduras, Honduras If you wish to dive Crosscreek Dive Center provides also free rooms to stay and free internet! (2007) There are double rooms, rooms for 4 and 6 people. Good tip? (0) Copan, Inland Honduras, Honduras Most people stay in Copan just to see the Copan Ruinas, but this town is amazing. There's something very charming, but very real about this town. It's the kind of place where you can just say goodbye to your itinerary. I highly recommend walking to the Ruinas from town, it's only about a half hour. Good tip? (0) Roatan, Carribean Honduras, Honduras quite a small island just off honduras, very poor, great people n a few good activities like kayaking n snorkelling. Good tip? (0) Tegucigalpa, Inland Honduras, Honduras Leave Tegu for the interior ideally the Olancho Dept. It is considered the "Wild West" of Honduras by the Honduran people. Good tip? (0) Tegucigalpa, Inland Honduras, Honduras Lovely people in Honduras, but Teguc is a bit of a hole. Very dangerous in terms of street crime, esp getting robbed with a weapon. Better probably to tour the smaller cities in Honduras and San Pedro Sula if you have to choose a bigger city. Good tip? (0) Roman Catholic and Protestantism are the dominant religions. Last edited Jan 20, 09 8:14 AM. Contributors: Contributors: Andrew W. Utila, Carribean Honduras, Honduras Welcome to the diving capital of the world. If you're going to Utila, chances are you're looking to dive. Just about everyone on the island is either on a diving vacation or just learning, as I was. If that's the case, I would highly recommend the Utila Dive Center. I got my certification there in the summer of 2006. It's a party atmosphere, but not at the expense of safety. Everybody there knows that diving is serious fun. The instructors go out of their way to ensure the safety of their divers, and will not hesitate to tell you if they seriously think you are not ready for diving. (That doesn't mean they're rude; it means they're concerned for your safety.) With that, though, everyone there is out for a good time and there is music playing constantly out on the pier.
If you dive with them, you'll probably want to stay at the Mango Inn, which is included with their certification courses. I was backpacking when I visited and Mango was a rare bit of luxury after spending months in dingy hostels. There's an outdoor pool on the grounds and it's open all night. There's also a bar and restaurant. It's not a five star resort, but unless you're looking for decoration, tv, and carpeted hallways, it might as well be. Good tip? (0) Sambo Creek, Carribean Honduras, Honduras A lot of music and nice beaches Good tip? (0) Tegucigalpa, Inland Honduras, Honduras As for most central american capitals... dont stick around too long. Rather noisy, dirty and ... grey... I would recommend to go up to the "valle de los angeles", which is close by and very cute.
I have no idea about public transportation, as i personally hitch-hiked, which in this particular city was quite a hassle.... make sure you are at the right exit!!!! Good tip? (0) Utila, Carribean Honduras, Honduras Great diving, Great nightlife...easy to disappear here for weeks at a time. Underwater Vision Dive shop had good deals and don't over crowd the boats. You must eat Baliadas!! Rent a bike and get one of the divemasters to take you out to the fresh water caves! Whalesharks sometimes hang out on the east side of the island. Coco's, Daves BBq, Bar in the Bush, billiards at Bucket of blood, full moon parties... Good tip? (0) Roatan, Carribean Honduras, Honduras quite a small island just off honduras, very poor, great people n a few good activities like kayaking n snorkelling. Good tip? (0) Omoa, Pacific Honduras, Honduras Roli's Place - Go there. Mrs Roli bakes fresh bread every day, there are free bikes available, the rooms are small but comfortable, the grounds are gorgeous and the rates are fantastic, the only downside is Roli himself is a bit grumpy but hey, even paradise isn't perfect... Good tip? (0) Roatan, Carribean Honduras, Honduras Roatan, Hondura is an interesting little island caught between the third world and the modern world. One small part of the island caters to the vacationing scuba diver and the rest of the island lives in the reality that is Honduran. You can experience some amazing scuba diving at a great price and then take a boat taxi to the other side of the island, walk dirt roads through the small town, drink with the locals and eat from the old ladies selling fish from grills on the side of the road. Watch out for the any local trouble as the police are less than honest and will take your money or put you in jail for some small, and often imaginary, infraction against local law. I didn't see a money exchange, though the scuba resorts take credit cards. There were few restaurants, but the local fish vender is 'good food'. The hotels that catered to the diver were clean, but not fancy. There was little night life on Roatan so bring your books. After you take the boat taxi to the main part of town you can rent a moped to explore the rest of the island. Wear a helmet and watch the traffic, they are fast and care little about the vacationer. Good tip? (0) Roatan, Carribean Honduras, Honduras One of the best dive spots in the Caribbean, and cheap (10 dives US$20 a dive typically). Catch the ferry from La Cieba, get a taxi to West End. There are tons of funky little bars and restaurants, and a lot of dive schools, which encourages competition. I used Coconut Tree Divers, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Oh, and because Roatan was settled by slaves dumped by the British, everyone speaks English not Spanish. Only downside I could find was that the beach has a lot of sandflies. Good tip? (+1) Copan, Inland Honduras, Honduras Copán ruinas, beautiful archaeological site. The town itself is also nice, cool, calm, relaxing.... Good tip? (0) La Ceiba, Carribean Honduras, Honduras To Utila island there are two ferries a day: 9.30 am and 4 pm. From Utila they leave at 6.20 am and 2 pm. Good tip? (0) La Ceiba, Carribean Honduras, Honduras There is a free guide "Honduras tips". You will find every information in that little book. Hotels, ferry timetables, activities and much more... very helpful! Good tip?
