Hong Kong (SAR) - Before You Go

The following are some of the things to prepare for before the trip:

1.  check with the Chinese embassy or consulate whether your planned period of stay in Hong Kong requires you to get an entry visa, and the validity period of the visa.

2.  check with your travel agent, the internet, newspaper and other sources to see if Hong Kong has been hit by any epidemic.  While such events ar rare, in the last few years, Hong Kong has been hit by bird flu and by SARS.

3.  although Hong Kong is a city of all seasons, it is worth knowing what tends to happen in Hong Kong during specific times of the year.

If you visit beween April and November, be prepared for rain and typhoons although they do not happen every day or even every week.

If you visit between December and March, bring some warmer clothing; but Hong Kong is nothing like the Artic.

Christmas and the New Year period tends to be the season for serious shopping (although shopping is a year-round affair here) and firework displays.
