Bolungarvik, a town on the outer shores of the large bay Isafjardardjup, is one of the country’s oldest fishing ports (dating back to the time of settlement). There are rich fishing grounds just a short distance off Bolungarvik and, consequently, the town’s activities centre around the fishing industry. The tourist trade increases gradu ally and a midnight drive on a fine summer night to Cove Skalavik, where one can enjoy nature’s beauty and observe the midnight sun , is very popular . Scheduled sea cruises are on offer where whale /bird watching and tours to distant, deserted bays , are the main attractions.

The distance from Reykjavik is 473 km by the Whale Bay tunnel.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Bolungarvik
Welcome the Week of Love festival !

yep, I enjoyed this place during 2 weeks with a group of international volunteers of World Wild Friends - a voluntary service organisation which organise workcamps every year in Iceland - and we had a lot of fun. Check pictures and videos on Facebook.
In the other hand, there is not so much too see there except if you wanna enjoy this rough landscape with long fjords and mountains jumping into the ocean, hike in the surroundings... or come back in winter to enjoy the northern lights.
You may meet some nice people as Alain, a French painter living there for 8 years.
Good tip?
