Eskifjordur is a branch of the larger bay Reyðarfjordur, which cuts into the mountainous area of the Eastfjords region. On it is the fishing village Eskifjordur.
Originally it was a Danish trading post (from 1798). One of the old merchant houses, Gamlabud (1816), has been re stored and houses The Maritime Museum. The village has been the seat of the district magistrate since 1853. One of the places of interest in its proximity is an old mine, where Iceland Spar was mined for almost four centuries until the first part of the 20th century.
Mt Holmatindur is one of the most prominent mountains on the bay and where its lower shoulder drops into the sea a nature reserve has been proclaimed. Fishing and fish processing are flourishing bases of livelihood and tourism is gaining ground.
The distance from the capital is 692 km.

There are not a lot of things to do in Eskifjördur. You can find some hinking paths around the town and discover the fjord and mountain around. The pub is open 2 days a week, on friday and saturday. There are not a lot of people inside, only the barman and 2 or 3 guys. If you wan to go there, go with some friends, and try to make the pub living ^^
