Travel Tips from people who've been to Keflavik
To see the northern lights, dont pay an expensive bus trip, take you car, sit near one of the hotels and follow the bus, the drivers know where the best spots to see them are, and you can drive on about 200 metres and get away from the crowd, noise light (and people thinking they can take a photo of the northern lights with a flash!) Good tip? (+1) Take an SLR camera with a strong tripod and a 18-55 lense for the best photos of the Northern lights.
The lights a very hard to capture on camera, take lots of shots at different exposures (at maximum appeture) at for best results Good tip? (+1) Again, catch your airplane here, what else... though the airport kind of falls enroute between the Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik ... so lots of short-time visitors to Iceland tend to do the customary Blue Lagoon trip (certainly worth it even if touristy) to or from Keflavik Airport, after or before their Reykjavik trip... the airport is very organised for this ... with several timings for the Flybus that takes you to the Blue Lagoon and brings you back or takes you to Reykjavik (or vice versa)... Iceland in general (and the airport certainly) is quite organised with tons and tons of brochures for all kinds of trips and excursions (wonder how an environment friendly country like Iceland permits so much paper wastage)... the airport otherwise is small but swanky, ... and the journey to Reykjavik on the Flybus is rather scenic with lava-laden fields and a surreal moon-like backdrop to the area... Good tip? (0)
