Planning a Trip to Delhi

New Delhi is an example of extreme climate. If you are planning a visit you must consider the time you are planning to land here. The best time to come here is between February and May and then again between October and November. December-January is cold and foggy and June is very hot (50 C) and July-September is humid and hot. Its also a good place to base your travel to places like Agra, Jaipur if you are keen for a day trip.

Dust storms called loo sweep in from Rajasthan with considerable fury. The arrival of the monsoon, at the end of June, brings intense humidity - the murder rate usually peaks in this month. From November to March is the best time to visit, with cool but sunny weather. Also, Holi, one of the most exuberant Hindu festivals, takes place around this time, in February or March. October sees the end of the monsoon, but is reasonably pleasant, although the days can still be pretty hot. Nights can be quite chilly in December and January. Weather One of Delhi's drawbacks is that for more than half the year the climate is lousy. For about four months - from November until about March - it's fine, with daytime temperatures between 21 and 30°C (70-86°F). However, by the end of April it's hot, while May and June are really hot - temperatures can swoop up to more than 45°C (113°F). In July it gets cooler but the humidity really hits, often with all-day rain through August and September.

The best time to go to Delhi is after the monson season, around october. The weather is cool and you can visit the most important sites in the morning before 12:00 am

Delhi and North Indian states: Best time to visit is March-April and September-November

In times of May-June, its seriously start to get hot and you must be careful with your eating habit.. eat less and drink a lot of water (mineral bottled purchased from a shop) and shikanji!!

In times of August-September, its very humid and hot. Better got routine medicines on like Diarrhea, vomiting and motion.

Dont Drink the tap water take toilet paper condoms with you

If you are staying in Pahar Gang, Main Bazaar and need to get away from the crowds, There is a cemetery just down the road from the Post Office where you can sit in peace and quiet.

If you want to be able to keep in touch with home then buy a local SIM card for your mobile phone (make sure you're phone is unlocked). Texting is very cheap and if you buy an international SIM then making calls is very reasonable too. Getting a SIM card is easy and inexpensive. Be prepared to give a photocopy of your passport plus possibly a passport photo (some places will take a digital one for you) as this is required for the registration process.

Always travel to New Delhi in First Class express train!

Women, prepare to be harassed. Your bottom will be pinched, no matter how big, small, attractive, intimidating it is. Rickshaw man will try to rip you off - don't freak out, they do it to Delhites as well. The government emporiums are good to pick up things without the hassle of bargaining if you're tired of arguing over a rupee as they have fixed prices and most of the crafts have been hand picked for quality - you may pay a bit more but it's hassle free shopping. It's a 'love it or hate it' kinda city - best of luck.

All a real great make and mix one can say.... home city with the people that I love ... a nice cultural, historical and food city too ... at the same time, one huge construction site, polluted, populated, political...
